Theatre Experience

Pros:

  • "The effects on stage was really good, the theatre is not massive inside so it was easy to navigate to the seating."
  • "The ushers/staff were extremely kind and helpful. The toilet facilities were clean and tidy."
  • "The staff at the theatre were really friendly and helpful...and the atmosphere buzzing!"
  • "Seats were as narrow as aircraft seats but comfortable and booster cushions were available for children."
  • "The Theatre itself is large, grand and has comfortable seats with average legroom in the circle."
  • "The seats were very comfortable, especially compared to some other west end venues!"
  • "The theatre staff were helpful and efficient."

Cons:

  • "Theatre has limited toilets and will get very busy during the interval."
  • "We were sat right at the back and couldn't really see the front or the expressions on the actor/actresses faces really."
  • "Just a shame that our view was partially obstructed despite purchasing tickets that had an 'unobstructed view'."
  • "The Cambridge theatre was unexpectedly small & felt quite cramped."
  • "No disabled access to upper level at all."
  • "Unfortunately the toilets we used were cramped & small for the amount of people needing to go - this caused a very long wait down a narrow corridor."
  • "Only slight niggle was there wasn't enough time to get everyone who wanted to use the ladies loos through the loos during the interval."

Show Quality

Pros:

  • "We went to see Matilda: The Musical and it was absolutely fantastic!"
  • "The show was amazing and I really enjoyed it. All the actors did really well. Great performance!"
  • "The performances were all outstanding, especially the children."
  • "The musical was wonderful - full of laughs, visual effects and a feel-good storyline"
  • "Matilda is one amazing show."
  • "Incredible, amazing, totally and utterly in awe 💕 Every single element from start to finish was just completely unforgettable."
  • "The musical was outstanding with brilliant performances from children and adults alike."

Cons:

  • "Sound was so loud that voices not clear."
  • "The only critique I have is that there doesn't appear to be enough toilets to cater for the large audience."
  • "The experience ruined by the theatre allowing people to carry in bags of crisps and food, which they noisily chew throughout the performance."
  • "The use of strobe lighting that pointed into the audience's eyes was also very uncomfortable."
  • "We sat in stalls and felt that no matter where you sit in the stall the row in front isn't low enough so you cannot see properly unfortunately."
  • "The volume was so loud it distorted the singing and speaking, making parts hard to understand."
  • "It was really hot inside though. I don't know why AC wasn't working inside."

Staff and Service

Pros:

  • "What really stood out was each and every staff member I interacted with."
  • "Staff were lovely and friendly, and I think took on board our comments about it being too loud during the strobe lighting bits."
  • "Very clean toilets. Very helpful staff. Security guys were so kind."
  • "Staff were friendly and welcoming, but also professional, leaving us feeling looked after."
  • "The staff are friendly and helpful."
  • "Staff are usually pleasant and kind."
  • "Staff were polite, helpful & attentive."

Cons:

  • "Complained to the staff and they said it was supposed to be like that. Do not recommend to anyone."
  • "The usher was summoned, he also advised her not to do so but she was as rude to him as she had been to us, he advised me that they could do nothing about it and suggested we move (to cheaper seats)."
  • "I was most disappointed by is the lack of care from the ushers towards people being disruptive and talking throughout the musical."
  • "The theatre staff approached us and told my kids to keep quiet."
  • "A rancid and grubby little hovel. Staff were distant and cold."
  • "The drink and merchandise stalls feel badly organised especially during busy periods."
  • "Beware, they get you to line up in seating areas outside, so make sure you are in the correct queue."

Facilities and Amenities

Pros:

  • "The consessions were also convenient and Much cheaper than at theaters in NYC."
  • "Small old theatre perfect for seeing Matilda."
  • "The bar was downstairs which was a bit hard for my old mum but you were able to pre order interval drinks which made things easier at the time."
  • "Theatre was organised and getting in was efficient with bags searched quickly."
  • "Theatre staff were friendly and helpful. Entering the theatre went very smoothly and seats were easy to find."
  • "Great that they have booster seats for younger kids to sit on so they can see."
  • "Loved getting ice cream during intermission!"

Cons:

  • "These places have been living off 100yr old amenities for a long time."
  • "Distinct lack of sweets, snacks, and soft drinks on sale. And those that were available cost an eye watering amount."
  • "Performance of Matilda was superb and proves that there is nowhere to match London's West end for musical theatre. Unfortunately, theatre prices were a real rip off."
  • "As with all west end theatres, merchandise and refreshments were on the expensive side."
  • "The seats need updating ASAP, I've never seen seats at an angle, people can barely get past one another and when you do try to let people pass, you fall backwards which was annoying."
  • "£5 for one small tub of ice cream is shocking."
  • "Biggest downside was the lack of toilets, more downstairs in the Stalls bar, but still a few out of order."
