Hotel Accommodation

Pros:

  • "Really nice overnight stay, the hotel room was spotlessly clean and very well equipped with tea, coffee, bottled water and even biscuits."
  • "All staff were friendly and attentive and helped find suitable (free) parking - as there is none on site."
  • "Stayed here as all the hotels nearer the Hay Festival were booked/extortionate. Couldn’t be more pleased, professional staff booked us in and explained everything we needed."
  • "On arrival, staff extremely helpful. Room, air conditioned a blessing in the current heatwave."
  • "The room was exceptionally clean and tidy. Comfy bed and nice selection of tea coffee and biscuits."
  • "Stayed here overnight on Saturday 29th July 2023 whilst visiting the Brecon Beacons training for our charity trekking trip over the Alps."
  • "We stayed in the hotel, it was lovely and clean."

Cons:

  • "Never comega here #worst restraunt ever. Bad bad bad everywhere."
  • "Our room was a good size, the bathroom was an easy access wet room, fully tiled with all the appropriate rails and aids, but there was a really bad smell from the drain."
  • "Stayed on the 26th march and sadly had an awful nights sleep (room 2)."
  • "The beds were really uncomfortable, and were on wheels so rolled across the floor every time you sat down!"
  • "The rooms are starting to look a bit tired."
  • "The shower still had someone’s footprints in when we arrived."
  • "I was not impressed by the manager. I understand that it is an offence to sell to underagers but after giving him my id and clearly proving I am well over the legal age, I was met with great disrespect."

Food & Beverage

Pros:

  • "The breakfast were gorgeous, freshly cooked and service was very very quick."
  • "Good social distancing, plenty of hand sanitizer stations all around. Table service, staff very helpful and friendly, food was lovely."
  • "The beer is a great price and the service was very fast."
  • "Food is superb value for money. It's not haute cuisine, obviously, but it's incredibly cheap for what you get, which is perfectly reasonable food and a fantastic selection of drinks."
  • "Breakfast was lovely, especially the poached eggs."
  • "Food quality of usual Wetherspoons quality. Cheap and tasty."
  • "The food service was amazingly fast and the beer good and incredibly cheap."

Cons:

  • "Waited 14 minutes to be served a drink! Only 2 members of staff behind the bar."
  • "The drink service was poor, though. We had to get our own as they were left on a tray by the bar."
  • "With app ordering now I find waiters and waitresses 'forget' a lot...or I was coming after half hour of waiting for drinks this seems to be happening more frequently lately!"
  • "I don't know what happened but wow... food took an absolute age to get to us and when it did not a single person at our table finished their food because we all thought it was rubbish."
  • "The food however was dire."
  • "Plus the food tasted like soap and made me and my family sick."
  • "Food was cold, condiment bottles all empty."

Service & Staff

Pros:

  • "The outdoor area is large and social distancing is acceptable with the table layout."
  • "Located centrally in Brecon with shops and river nearby."
  • "The staff were friendly enough."
  • "Slight delay due to peak Saturday lunchtime but only aware when it was pointed out by staff member who generously offered us a free drink."
  • "The human servers were also friendly and quick."
  • "Breakfast and evening meal very good quality, staff friendly and attentive."
  • "The staff were lovely and so very helpful at all times."

Cons:

  • "Typical Wetherspoon. Very basic food menu with compulsory drink included. They take an old character building and somehow rearrange it to make it utterly soul less, cold and draughty, even on a summer day."
  • "Large pub, has a food rating of 5, but all tables dirty, with most having dirty plates/glasses on them."
  • "The guy who served me with a ginger beard seemed like he didn’t like the job."
  • "However, none of the serving staff had any PPE on and obviously came in to extremely close contact with us to serve our meals and drinks."
  • "Toilet was a bit of a mess as someone had threw up after too many bevvies and some tables were a bit grubby as people were in and out before staff had a chance to clean."
  • "Food service bit slow and clearing of tables need to speed up and cleaned regularly too many shift managers daily compared to amount of staff restaurant and bar staff need to take more care in their work areas keep tables clear."
  • "Unfortunately it has gone downhill since it first opened. Understaffed, tables are never cleared."
