Accessibility

Pros:

  • "With good access for people with limited mobility, tour was possible with 4 wheeled walker!! And was not too faster paced so all could keep up including people in their late 80's on this trip!!"
  • "Level footing throughout the caves themselves."
  • "The caves themselves are extensive."

Cons:

  • "Outside it was not very disabled friendly with a bit of a hilly walk to the ticket office and refreshments."
  • "Access is by steep path up from carpark and down to quarry entrance."
  • "Slightly steep getting up from the car park and down to the cave."
  • "Steep walk down to the caves and obviously inside need to be relatively steady on your feet."
  • "I would suggest that this excursion is not suitable for wheelchair users."
  • "Not for the claustrophobic or disabled as the floor is uneven."
  • "The lighting is acceptable however tied with the uneven ground I would not recommend for anyone instead on their feet."

Facilities

Pros:

  • "Toilets by car park area are very clean if in a temporary building."
  • "A lovely little shop selling refreshments at the top, with covered and uncovered picnic areas."
  • "We stopped and had drink before we left, again a very reasonable £8 for 4 drinks so reasonable cost."
  • "Has toilets small shop and cafe."
  • "There’s a cafe, shop and toilet on site too."
  • "Free to use chemical toilets in free car park, small cafe with scones/crisps/ice cream/drinks."
  • "All staff on site are welcoming, and facilities on site are ample (cafe, toilets, picnic benches etc)."

Cons:

  • "The toilets are horrible smelly porta loos in the car park, and the cafe was very basic."
  • "Having watched me struggle up the slope on my crutch, I get told by a cleaner that the toilets were really for patrons only and I couldn't use them!"
  • "The Portaloos were not great."
  • "First thing we came across was a baguette sandwich for £7 which was just daylight robbery for a butty no matter how it was spun about it being fresh baguettes."
  • "Also charging £3.50 for a canned drink is taking a liberty."
  • "We had some cream teas from the shop which were quite expensive for what they were."
  • "BE AWARE DONT GO BY GOOGLE TIMES make sure you go through other sources for opening days & times turned up yet again to discover that it's closed when Google says its open!!"

Guides

Pros:

  • "Far more interesting than it may appear, and that's mostly thanks to the amazing tour guides."
  • "Our tour guide was excellent - enthusiastic, funny and engaging."
  • "The best part of whole tour was how enthusiastic and passionate our tour guide was, he really made it such a fun experience!"
  • "The guide Henry was brilliant and our son was absolutely captivated by the history of the quarries."
  • "The guide Richard was brilliant and exceeded expectations."
  • "Our guide was knoligible and friendly covered the history of the quarry from Roman to 21st century."
  • "Our tour guide had a great sense of humour for the adults and stories for the children."

Cons:

  • "Completely disappointing and annoying!!"
  • "Absolutely grim."
  • "I can’t believe people are leaving good reviews of this 'attraction'."
  • "Maybe there is potential here, seems interesting. Whilst booking was told to wrap up due to the cold but not that on the tour itself it an hour of silence would be expected from the guests … which is not possible with small children the group."
  • "Guide was friendly enough but we did get asked to leave. just don’t try unless your children can give their full and undivided attention for this long."
  • "3 stars as it's not really my kinda thing and only went because my boyfriend booked it."
  • "£25 for a family ticket seemed a bit steep, and on reflection £20 may have been a bit more reasonable."

Experience

Pros:

  • "Just as previous reviewers have written, a unique, amazing experience led by an informative guide."
  • "Definitely worth a visit if you are interested in history."
  • "Our visit to Bee Quarry was excellent."
  • "Highly recommend."
  • "What an amazing place to be mostly if is baking hot outside."
  • "Awesome caves, so much history and Martin, our guide, was very interesting and knowledgeable."
  • "Brilliant way to spend an educational afternoon."

Cons:

  • "Dog friendly, but to honest, its quite upsetting for most dogs, for whatever reason."
  • "The tour was informative and last for about an hour and a half, gets a little repetitive towards the end."
  • "I would say that any child below the age of 11 is unlikely to have their attention captured for the tour."
  • "Not for really small kids as they would get bored or scared."
  • "Probably not a place for younger children or if you want bangs and whistles entertainment."
  • "Small children can get bored quickly, so parents should think about whether they want to tire the child and themselves."
  • "So if you have a dog that is reactive to loud noises like I do, PLEASE ask them not to do it. My pup was terrified after."
