Food Quality

Pros:

  • "Amazing food... with the emphasis on fresh seafood but other foods as well."
  • "Scallops tender and juicy, steak cooked to perfection and creme brulee to die for, highly recommend the ship Inn."
  • "The food here was cooked to perfection! I have never had a better steak anywhere else in the UK."
  • "The food was superb specially the Belly Pork (pls check the photos) it was one of the best belly porks I have ever had!"
  • "Food was excellent with great service considering how busy the pub was showing how popular it is!"
  • "The food was excellent both in quality and price."
  • "Absolutely delicious food, piping hot and so obviously home made."

Cons:

  • "Pan fried chicken was inedible. Tough to cut and hard to chew."
  • "£17 for 5 Scallops which were boiled rather than pan fried so were tough, and plonked on a bed of rice with no thought for presentation."
  • "Cane for the wood fired pizza on a Friday. Dough was already cooked before."
  • "Food ordered arrived very hot, microwaved I guess but neither of our chosen meals arrived with any form of veg, menus don't mention veg either."
  • "Food was ok although we ordered steak and kidney pie and the pastry was really hard and inedible."
  • "The vegetables were poorly cooked, potatoes and Yorkshire pudding burnt."
  • "Long wait for food, not much of it, and it was tepid looked like it had been sitting on the side for a while."

Service

Pros:

  • "Staff so helpful and accommodating even though they were very busy."
  • "The staff were attentive and knowledgeable about the menu."
  • "The lady who served us was lovely, she greeted us warmly and nothing was too much trouble."

  • "The staff were brilliant, the food great and plentiful."
  • "The service was great and servers very polite and attentive."
  • "Our waitress was Maisie. She was totally amazing, a real credit to the Inn owners."

Cons:

  • "But when the landlord came out and showed no remorse and was extremely rude, it completely ruined the evening."
  • "We complained but nobody did anything. No apology no offer to put it right."
  • "Just the guy who dealt with our complaint was useless, albeit polite."
  • "Took ages for our mains to be cleared and when it was cleared we was waiting on the dessert menu."
  • "The staff were a little overwhelmed when we visited."
  • "The service was very poor, overbooked and understaffed."
  • "Social distancing not adhered to as people were constantly crowded at the front door waiting for acknowledgement from staff."

Ambiance

  • "Lovely setting by the river, the weather was too miserable to sit outside, but the pub inside is spacious and airy."
  • "Nice beer garden to rear."

Cons:

  • "We were seated next to the toilets."
  • "We were boxed in by another car parking behind us."
  • "The landlord's 3 dogs just came out and started wandering around and jumping on people and peeing on customer tables."
  • "The toilets weren't in keeping with this standard and neither was the cleanliness."
  • "When we arrived there had been a wedding all day and the place was heaving we couldn't hear each other speak."
  • "Our only other slight criticism was that we were sat directly under a speaker churning out muzak loudly."
  • "However it felt more restaurant than pub, the charming exterior of the building is totally let down inside."

Cons:

  • "The pub was very busy-the car park is far too small for the size of the pub."
  • "Car park a bit tiny considering the popularity but we managed to get in."
  • "Parking was a bit of a nightmare as the car park was full."
  • "My father had slow roasted rib of beef which he didn't feel was very good value for money."
  • "Really slow service, not freshly cooked as found plastic in my sons steak pie."
  • "However it felt more restaurant than pub, the charming exterior of the building is totally let down inside."
  • "Unfortunately the 'Boss' was on holiday. A responsible business owner does not take his/her holiday during school holiday and after a bank holiday, certainly not one located in a coastal resort."
