Animal Enclosures and Care

Pros:

  • "A great zoo with some stunning animals who are very well looked after."
  • "All animals looked well looked after and cared for."
  • "The animals were fantastic and you get to walk alongside wallaby’s, peacocks and goats in their enclosure!"
  • "Animals look happy and healthy with more than generous enclosures!"
  • "The animals are well looked after and their enclosures look natural...that's one thing I like about this zoo is that the animals look healthy and happy and they make their homes as natural as possible...not cage like other zoos!"
  • "Animals that are clearly very well cared for."
  • "All of the enclosures are set up with the best interests of the animals at heart."

Cons:

  • "The play area was a bit lacklustre."
  • "Several enclosures were not being used and we felt this was a shame as it would have taken longer to go round if they'd been filled."
  • "A few pens closed or empty."
  • "The jaguar was just pacing back and forth clear sign of stress, a wolf alone without a pack is not good to see, a singular lioness again is heartbreaking to witness."
  • "Visibility of some of the animals is poor due to their enclosure positioning."
  • "A lot of the enclosures were empty, apparently due to be refurbished, some animals were very tricky to see."
  • "Was really concerned about a few enclosures, the otters pool was near on empty except for a little muddy puddle also the cranes pool was totally empty too, also the phoenix enclosures was so so small."

Staff and Service

Pros:

  • "Every member of staff is so friendly and take the time to say hello which is lovely."
  • "The staff were helpful, courteous and knowledgeable about the park and animals."
  • "The staff and volunteers always seem attentive and knowledgable and the animals well cared for."
  • "The staff are excellent and clearly care for the animals and the work they do."
  • "Once again, absolutely blown away by the staff - they are all so knowledgeable, accommodating and friendly."
  • "The staff were very approachable, polite and knowledgeable about the animals."
  • "All staff were very friendly and informative."

Cons:

  • "It was okay but personally I wouldn't travel to visit again, it's not overly large."
  • "Had pre booked tickets so had to go in the rain ☹️. As it rained all day we didn't get to see many animals."
  • "There were also no staff in sight when we went to the shop / restaurant area."
  • "Really unhappy with the service after paying good money to go in there no one there to help cos there was a wedding on so that was more important than paying customer."
  • "No staff around to answer questions."
  • "They don't serve anything like bacon baps in the morning which was disappointing."
  • "Alot of the enclosures were closed and was not notified that this would be the case as ticket prices were still full."

Facilities and Accessibility

Pros:

  • "Lovely play park for the children and the facilities were accessible and clean throughout."
  • "Plenty seating surrounded by stunning plants, bushes and trees kept us shaded during our picnic lunch."
  • "The cafe/restaurant is large with plenty of tables and child amenities too."
  • "They do have a disabled car park in front of the Cafe for those unable to walk up the path."
  • "Mobility issues - no need to worry as you can park at the top and the zoo has some mobility scooters to hire."
  • "The toilet facilities were well maintained and present in two main places across the zoo."
  • "Toilet facilities nice and clean and sufficient changing area for the babies."

Cons:

  • "There is disabled parking but unfortunately the spaces are not wide enough for wheelchair access unless you have the first or last parking bays!!"
  • "I appreciate what they’re doing but this is not a wheelchair friendly place, it is way too hilly and in some parts way too steep for downhill."
  • "The only thing that stops it getting 5 stars is disabled access isn't great, some paths are very rough and it's very steep in places."
  • "It is very hilly so was quite challenging and the footpaths are not very sound in places."
  • "Just don't go when it's raining only one little play area for the little ones I would say under 3 only. And not much places to get under cover."
  • "Certain areas are shut off to the public as there is no lighting."
  • "There was no where to have lunch cos of the wedding and there was only 1 toilet cos of the wedding what isn't very good for kids."

Value and Experience

Pros:

  • "Our lunch was well priced and truly delicious - same quality I'd expect from a mid range restaurant/pub."
  • "We decided to incorporate some animal experiences in our day which made it even more special."
  • "The day was very enjoyable, and we will be back :)"
  • "Definitely worth the price of £50 which can be for up to 4 people at that price."
  • "Much bigger spaces for the animals forming part of the conservation process and nice to see more unusual species like Capybara etc."
  • "Kids loved the trail laid out to the dragon, and for £15 entry each, you get a full day of activity, so it's definitely worth a visit!"
  • "We had a wonderful visit for our son's birthday. He had a meet the Tiger and Meerkat experience which was amazing."

Cons:

  • "Arrived at 10am done by 12. Saw a lynx cat and a few monkeys that's about it."
  • "Fairly small zoo and could do with a bit of a spruce up."
  • "It was okay but personally I wouldn't travel to visit again, it's not overly large."
  • "Fairly pricey entrance almost as much as Paignton zoo."
  • "Overall fairly disappointing."
  • "Considering they charge the same as Paignton Zoo, which is much bigger, it wasn’t worth the ticket price."
  • "Very few animals and not a big zoo at all."
