Food Quality

Pros:

  • "The food from start to finish was outstanding."
  • "The 6 course tasting menu was delicious in every way."
  • "Every course, from the oysters to the trout with smoked mussels to the red deer, was perfectly cooked."
  • "Tasting menu was really good, top class food cooked to perfection."
  • "The food was great, never tasted everything better."
  • "Food was wonderful and all tasted very nice."
  • "Every dish on the 5-course menu blended complex flavours and textures."

Cons:

  • "The fillet of beef was tough and served with 2 small rectangles of mushroom and a trickle of well cooked sauce...it could have been a great dish."
  • "A menu that reads better than it delivers for some courses."
  • "The taster menu was interesting, as it should be, and the presentation was the same. There was too much raw fish and raw meat for me."
  • "The quality and cooking of the food was quite sub-par."
  • "The food was alright. We had the 6 course tasting menu and it was nice but I don’t think any of us had something we’d be rushing back to have again."
  • "Main served 50 minutes after starter and luke warm on a roasting plate."
  • "The other dessert lacked substance as well when comparing to everything else we had eaten."

Service

Pros:

  • "Service was friendly and knowledgeable without being pretentious."
  • "Service was impeccable. Friendly, professional and informative."
  • "They even gave us a personalised handwritten card to celebrate our anniversary which just goes to show the level of service you will receive here."
  • "Lovely service from Chloe, she made the dinner experience much better."
  • "The staff can explain the menu and the wine selection and answer any questions you may have."
  • "The staff were great, they explained every course in detail and were very attentive throughout."
  • "Service top notch served by a lovely waitress who knew her food and could explain each of the taster dishes expertly."

Cons:

  • "Service was very slow. We allowed 2-2.5 hours for dinner before a show but we were still there just over 4 hours after we arrived and missed the show."
  • "I tried to nicely tell the staff that it was ok not the best and received a pretty rude response."
  • "However, staff were short with us at various points and after our wine was served one of them went behind the bar and appeared to make snide remarks about our table."
  • "There was a somewhat uncomfortable incident where our server poured wine into my friend's water glass, thus wasting a glass of £73/bottle wine."
  • "Our first drink didn’t turn up until after we had finished our first course."
  • "We paid the bill and the staff just brought us our coats without being asked to and without even politely informing us they needed the table."
  • "Dessert took another 45 mins and they didnt bring our coffee as requested."

Atmosphere

Pros:

  • "A welcoming and cosy atmosphere."
  • "The restaurant itself is quite cozy."
  • "A nice relaxed ambience."
  • "The venue exudes a contemporary charm, enriched by its well-conceived interior design."
  • "The music and entourage creates the ‘feel like home’ touch."
  • "The Gannet has a really relaxed, homely surrounding."
  • "Lovely atmosphere."

Cons:

  • "The lighting was almost too dark and the layout of the tables could be better. Most of it feels like a thoroughfare so it has that rushed air."
  • "First impressions last." (In reference to a negative first impression)
  • "I was looked up and down by one of the staff."
  • "Sadly only two of the waitresses weren’t constantly walking around with faces like slapped arses."
  • "The bad vibes and attitude unfortunately overshadows how excellent the food was."
  • "The restaurant feels more comfortable and spacious."
  • "What the menu doesn’t indicate is that the sea trout is lightly cured (aka essentially raw); the venison is tartare (aka raw) and the beef is cooked by default as very rare (aka mostly raw)."

Value

Pros:

  • "Its not a cheap night out but worth every penny."
  • "Brilliant value for money and if ever back in Glasgow would definitely revisit."
  • "For the quality, the prices are excellent."
  • "£50 menu for fine dining is quite acceptable, especially given the level of service."
  • "Considering the size of the portions, the quality of the food and the thought that goes into each plate I thought it was a bargain."
  • "Tasting menu was excellent, great value for money considering the quality of food."
  • "Although at first I thought the menu was really quite pricey, it turned out to be great value."

Cons:

  • "£8 for a cheese supplement is excessive particularly when the cheese wasn’t the best."
  • "The problem lies in the pricing, when you are charging £24 a main the food needs to be better than good; it needs to be excellent."
  • "Overall, I didn't feel satisfied, tiny portions and over priced."
  • "A small rant about the mandatory 10% Service charge, is this really necessary?"
  • "Only slight quibble is £14 supplement for the cheese course. Seems expensive for 2 small wedges of cheese and homemade crackers & chutney."
  • "What will stop me from ever going back is the price of 'a glass of wine'."
  • "Price wise it is on the higher side but you are paying for the quality."
