Food Quality

Pros:

  • "Especially the cod was amazing, and serving a partridge's leg with talons still attached is really impressive!"
  • "Fantastic food and atmosphere. Great attention to detail and customer service."
  • "The food itself blew us away, with locally sourced produce and a carefully crafted tasting menu."
  • "Refined Scottish cuisine made with local produce."
  • "The best vegetarian dish I've ever eaten."
  • "The food was a unique combination of flavours that worked incredibly well."
  • "Every dish was so clever and delicious at that."

Cons:

  • "Food is disappointing though. Too much pickled stuff. Meat was very fatty and chewy."
  • "The green tomato dish was a bowl of vinegar, the pheasant was so tough it was comical."
  • "The food and drink were over-priced and under-whelming."
  • "The tempura on the broccoli was way too greasy."
  • "Some of the dishes were not coherent and overly sweet. Bitter Lettuce and cold meat dish was awful."
  • "The food was over priced pretentious nonsense. Not one part what was brought to our table had substance."
  • "The food was on the sweet side and the cocktails were very average."

Service

Pros:

  • "The service was impeccable; friendly, knowledgeable and not at all pretentious."
  • "We had 3 different waiting staff during the meal and all were competent and professional."
  • "The staff were incredibly attentive and nice."
  • "The service was without fault, so attentive and intuitive to our needs."
  • "The service great and very friendly."
  • "Great staff, and very good food."
  • "The service was excellent and the staff were unfailingly friendly and knowledgeable."

Cons:

  • "Unfortunately, the interesting atmosphere and the high quality of the food did not match the service."
  • "The service was also excruciatingly slow and incredibly pretentious."
  • "Most of them did not make me feel welcome, and the service was rather robotic."
  • "One waiter, who had been perfectly pleasant up to this point, started being what I can only describe as racist towards us as we were about to start our last course."
  • "The service was also notably terrible, primarily in being painfully slow."
  • "Staff could have been friendlier (sommelier didn't really seem fussed to chat, seemingly as my wife was pregnant and we weren't going to be buying lords)."
  • "The service... SLOW! The place wasn't even half full and it was about 1 in the afternoon."

Ambiance & Decor

Pros:

  • "The ambiance was beautifully rustic."
  • "The rooms have a lot of character."
  • "Its in an old timberyard obviously and has a lovely rustic charm, floor to ceiling wine rack and a wood burning stove."
  • "The vibe at Timberyard is cool and classy, with an edgy, modern feel."
  • "Love the look and feel of this place. Raw, yet very cool and attractive decor."
  • "The decor is effortlessly hip."
  • "Beautiful decor."

Cons:

  • "While beautiful, the place lacks atmosphere as people are quietly shivering to death in their seats."
  • "We were sat at a table that was next to a heavily used door that wasn't sprung to close so would get left open by the staff and customers going in and out, engulfing us in a freezing wind for most of the meal."
  • "The space looks lovely however that really means nothing when the other elements fall short."
  • "Once seated in the cold barn, we were left unattended for a good 20 minutes."
  • "Only criticism was that it felt a bit cold, the temperature."
  • "We were sat at the end of a janky table, my plate couldn’t balance on the timber."
  • "The one that stuck in my head was the uncomfortable chair, a 7 course tasting menu is a 3 to 4 hour experience."

Value

Pros:

  • "For £22 its pretty darn good value I think."
  • "We had a voucher so that took the price down to just £40 for both of us which was far more reasonable."
  • "Pricing was about £60 a head (With alcohol) which is now cheap but worth every penny!"
  • "Really good price for the amazing quality!"
  • "At £45 for a menu, it is very reasonably priced."
  • "Although expensive, I thought it was great value - we had an evening we'll remember for a long time."
  • "The food courses we had all tasted wonderful, and although portion sizes were on the small size it was good value."

Cons:

  • "The food was good but the portion size was a bit smaller than expected."
  • "The portion sizes were incredibly small and not good value for money given the £75 cost per person."
  • "The wine by glass not available. If it would have been, I would have been shocked by the price. £11..."
  • "Food was really very good, but not worth what it cost."
  • "Saying portions were small is an understatement."
  • "As I try to look at the negatives of this experience all that can come to mind is the price, starting at 75£ per person which adds up once you couple it with the wine and anything else."
  • "If you have £350 to spend on dinner for 4 - DON'T book Timberyard."
