Safari Experience

Pros:

  • "Brilliant day out and Andy doing the deer show was amazing."
  • "Had a wonderful time on the Highland Safari with our guide, Cameron."
  • "Had a brilliant mountain safari with Tony this morning - we were lucky enough to spot roe deer and a huge number of red deer as well as kestrels, skylarks and a heron."
  • "Absolutely outstanding Safari with Andy. A genuine lover of nature, and of the area as well."
  • "We had a great morning out at the Highland Safari."
  • "The mountain safari was mind blowing, it was a true adventure."
  • "This was one of the highlights of our holiday. Hand feeding the deer was incredible as was the white owl."

Cons:

  • "In all, it seemed not to be great value for money..."
  • "Didn’t see any animals on the way- all squirrels hide and all red deer’s were on the another side of the hill."
  • "We did 4x4 safari tour... it is overpriced, we paid 200GBP to see one bird in the air."
  • "Very wet day when visited here as part of coaching holiday. Very disappointed as didn't see anything on a very uncomfortable ride cramped into the jeeps that took us on the safari."
  • "The only thing missing was the wildlife which mostly stayed hidden, apart from some deer."
  • "Whilst I am sure that the actual safari would be a great experience its pointless if I can't actually book one."
  • "Forest safari- place for improvement in my opinion as to call this forest safari is a big stretch."

Cafe and Food

Pros:

  • "The cafe was one of the better ones we've been to. A decent fry-up with tasty black pudding and proper square sausage."
  • "Great cafe, gift shop and outdoor area. Lots to choose from on the menu."
  • "We had lunch at the cafe afterward which was very good, as it has been on all of our visits."
  • "The food is very well priced and the portions certainly don't leave you hungry."
  • "The coffee is better than average but the toasted sandwiches are really nice and the cakes look great."
  • "Food was very tasty with local produce."
  • "The cafe food was very good and reasonably priced."

Cons:

  • "Have visited the cafe for years and always enjoyed the fare but since changing hands the menu dipped and service not to their old standards."
  • "Ok food, terrible service. We were left standing at the 'please wait to be seated' sign and were ignored by several members of staff while waiting."
  • "The cake selection was good but my friend ordered the homemade cookies for approx £1.95 and instead of being cookies it was a singular cookie that was quite small."
  • "I tried three times within a four hour visit to get a seat at the café and get some coffee. But the wait was just so long."
  • "We unfortunately couldn't get a table when we were finished the tour!"
  • "So overall was very disappointed with our experience."
  • "Uncleared tables with rubbish blowing around the outside area."

Staff and Guides

Pros:

  • "A big thank you to Robbert: very knowledgeable, professional, approachable and friendly, and some absolutely ridiculous joke-telling!"
  • "Cameron and Jane were great tour guides who knew their stuff."
  • "The staff at this place are just incredibly friendly and accommodating!"
  • "The staff are ridiculously friendly and polite."
  • "People who worked there all really friendly and helpful."
  • "The staff in reception were both brilliant - extremely helpful, friendly and made all of us feel very welcome."
  • "Staff are always very lovely and helpful."

Cons:

  • "Although our guide was very knowledgeable about the geology of the area, we actually only saw two swans and a heron, in the distance."
  • "Our driver spent all his time talking to one of our coach drivers that came in our car."
  • "Was disappointed that the women on the phone didn't even offer if we wanted to move our booking for any alternative dates or even offer a voucher for a later visit."
  • "A lot of us were also expecting to take part in the axe throwing and archery but the gate to the area was locked."
  • "One member of our group was tested positive for corona in the morning of the tour day... they stuck to cancellation policy to pay 100%."
  • "Very disappointed, unlikely to return."
  • "This has put me off booking in future or recommending."

Activities and Facilities

Pros:

  • "The Discovery Trail is fantastic and if you're bringing your kids bicycle, they have a track for that too."
  • "Seemed like lots to entertain kiddies - good playpark and sifting for gold outside."
  • "There's also a nice little outdoor area for children to play, even a small gold panning area."
  • "Land rover excursions up in to the hills with your very own Kilted tour guide."
  • "Such a great way to spend a few hours with the kids."
  • "There's also mountain bikes to rent."
  • "Plenty of activities for kids too & playpark."

Cons:

  • "We hired 3 mountain bikes, all of them were poorly maintained and given to us with fundamental issues."
  • "Its not cheap to book to start with so we had to lose the full booking which was a shame."
  • "Just one thing regarding the questions and answers on the website! It is confirmed on the website that there are chemical toilets by most of the Bothys, however, we were told on arrival that there are no toilets whilst out on the safaris which was very misleading."
  • "We did the half day highland safari, we saw one or two deer but the day was still fantastic."
  • "We stayed all day and let the kids ride the mountain bikes."
  • "They even have a shaded area to leave the car if you have a dog but insist you bring them in."
  • "We also used the pump track and used the centre for a base to go cycling."
