Ambiance and Atmosphere

Pros:

  • "There is also a nice, chilled atmosphere with good music playing in the background and candles slowly flickering on the tables."
  • "The pub itself had a quirky smugglers theme to it which made it an all enjoyable evening."
  • "The atmosphere was quite cosy has a warmth to it."
  • "Lovely atmosphere and great food, we had 2 starters, prawn cocktail and goats cheese and our mains were the fish and chips and bacon burger, all were lovely."

Cons:

  • "The main thing for me is impersonal service - no rapport - no atmosphere."
  • "The lack of genuine warm hospitality. Nothing bad but nothing that really made you connect to the place."
  • "The one thing I left with was the lack of genuine warm hospitality."
  • "Unfortunately some items on the menu had run out when we arrived for our 6:30 booking on a Sunday. What we had, between the two of us, was very good, more choice would have resulted in 5 stars."

Food Quality

Pros:

  • "The beef burger was good but was too overloaded with salad, ketchup and mustard."
  • "Loved the prawns and fried sprats though, the taste of the prawn gravy was spot on and made the perfect dip for the bread."
  • "The fish and chips was great too, really nicely battered and all good sized portions."
  • "We were on a coach holiday & was recommended this place by a resident staying at the hotel near by & they recommended the Mussels which me and mom had with bread & fries washed down with a nice cold leffe blonde."

Cons:

  • "The mussels was good but we were expecting the classic mussels to have white wine and Parsley but this had cream on it which made it bland."
  • "The food was very delayed and the service wasn’t very good when we asked how long the food would take. We came on a very busy bank holiday Monday. They couldn’t cope with all the orders."
  • "Unfortunately after booking a table we had a TERRIBLE experience. There were 11 of us, pre-booked. We waited an hour and 50 minutes for the mains to arrive."
  • "When the food finally arrived everything was way over salted."

Service

Pros:

  • "Food service was quick too. If you’re in the area then this place is a great option for food and drinks."
  • "The food came out very quickly and the service was fantastic."
  • "Enjoyed a meal here with family. Unfortunately a couple of issues with the cabbage that accompanied two of the meals was under cooked. The Inn was fairly busy and a little loud. We had, Fish n Chips, Burger, sausage and mash, plus steak n ale pie. The waitress was polite."
  • "After a cold costal walk, the perfect place to warm up. Roaring fire, Fresh seafood and Lovely hot chocolate (made with real chocolate!). Exceptionally welcoming and knowledgeable staff, they made our visit."

Cons:

  • "The main thing for me is impersonal service - no rapport - no atmosphere."
  • "Difficult to rate this place - perfectly good place to go, really nice decor, well stocked, good choice of food if you can get in the restaurant but the bar food choices are limited and plain."
  • "I would have given the place a strong five stars although, because of our experience with one of the waiters who was very unfriendly, aggressive and apparently she doesn’t like her job."
  • "Service wasn't great. Go for a main avoid the deserts"

Value for Money

Pros:

  • "Fantastic value for money. Lovely Bloody Mary's too."
  • "I had a fabulous evening and enjoyed the local beer with seafood platter and chicken fries. Yowler beer was really nice."
  • "Was in Folkstone for a few hours and this was the best thing about the town. The beer was great, as was the food [though the mains were a little pricey, or maybe £16 for a pub main is standard, I don't know anymore]."
  • "Good food on plentiful portions, quite a varied menu with something for everyone."

Cons:

  • "Came here for lunch with a friend and first off, what a gorgeous pub. A mish-mash of furniture, quirky nautical decor, a wood burner stove and views across the harbour. We went in on a Saturday afternoon around 12 so just before the lunch time rush and we were served at the bar immediately. I ordered a bottle of water and a Brighton Gin with a Mediterranean Tonic which came to £8.80 which felt a little pricey."
  • "I cannot put 1 star as food was eatable but come on guys. I’m coming to the sea food restaurant on the sea bank, in the port town. I’m happy to pay money for a good food but bloody being served with the food I can buy in ASDA or Morrison for £2."
  • "Nice pint of Hophead but an absolute kerfuffle to get it - this is what happens when you let children run your business ( young adults but they might as well be children ) just wanted a pint - 4 people behind bar - oh no make that five - too busy gurgling at each other to just serve - as Covid restrictions have been lifted not sure why they're asking me what table I'm sitting at as all I want is a pint - can see plenty of empty tables outside - I'll sit at one of those - which one? any one - sixth member of staff rushes outside to get me a table number comes back and tells me table number - then almost immediately changes her mind....can I just get the bleeding pint please!"
  • "The food was very delayed and the service wasn’t very good when we asked how long the food would take. We came on a very busy bank holiday Monday. They couldn’t cope with all the orders. We waited over 1 hour for food to come. But it never arrived. Wasted our time and went elsewhere."
