Ambiance and Location
Pros:
"Very cosy little pub, tucked away from the beaten track but just across the road from the park."
"Nice, pretty quiet local pub. Manages to not get too rammed even on busy days and is only a short walk from the busy areas in Greenwich."
"The pub itself is so cozy and warm."
"A real English pub, very close the national maritime museum."
"Lovely quaint pub just outside Greenwich Park."
"One of my favourite Greenwich pubs."
"Worth a visit if you're looking for a traditional little pub with history and did I mention the pub cat? Saving the best for last!"
Cons:
"Place had a lingering smell of fish, so luckily there was seating outside the back."
"I could smell cigarette smoke from where I was sitting (indoors)."
"Smell of urine upon entering was already off putting."
"Layout is very awkward, don't like the fact dogs are allowed in the bar where people are eating and table way too close to the women's toilets."
"Very occasionally smells of scampi, but this should not detract from this being a quality local pub."
"Felt 'stared at' sat in the restaurant section at back to avoid everyone lol."
Service
Pros:
"Friendly, warm atmosphere with great food at a great price."
"Staff were helpful at all stages of the planning and discreet but attentive and totally efficient on the day."
"Immediately greeted by one of the ladies behind the bar who let me know we could order and sit or they would come to the table."
"The staff are fantastic and exceptionally welcoming."
"Server on duty was friendly and welcoming."
"Everyone behind the bar are warm and welcoming and it has the most enjoyable and relaxing atmosphere."
"The staff are very good at their job and the locals are a friendly bunch."
Cons:
"Never have I ever encountered a land lady that has been as rude as the one here tonight - I would strongly recommend not eating here if this is their customer service to a family absolutely disgraceful."
"They are very under-staffed which resulted in a rude waitress who then ended our service by dropping a stack of 3 large roasting plates on top of a child's head."
"Might have been just the time we went, but behind the bar they didn't seem to know what was going on, it was like a carry on film."
"The rudest landlady I have ever encountered."
"Flouting lockdown restrictions, do you think you are more special? Photo from 08/05/2020, putting people at risk, endangering everyone's lives for pure greed, license should be revoked. Shame on you for putting profit before lives. Will be reported."
"Do not go to this pub with children. We took our 1 year old out with a party of us for Sunday lunch. He cried, as little children do sometimes, and we were told to be quiet."
"Came in for a late dinner and was told at 20:50 that the kitchen was closed. Only 10 minutes earlier than advertised but still disappointing after a long walk there on the back of a lot of good reviews!"
Food and Drink
Pros:
"Nice selection of beers from multiple breweries."
"Food was extremely good. Good value for money."
"The main Sunday roasts were... huge! The beef was really great in taste and texture and wonderful with all the trimmings; Yorkshire pudding, well cooked cabbage, carrot and beans... The gravy was terrific and the wonderful wait staff bought more on request."
"Very nice traditional pub, decent size and quality lunch portions that will fill you up!"
"The new Sunday roast is incredible. It’s one of the best pub roasts we’ve had in Greenwich. The quality of the beef was exceptional and portions are generous."
"The Sunday roasts are always very good."
"Food was super tasty and service was great."
Cons:
"The downside was the swarm of fruit flies that filled the air when I sat down."
"I opted for a soup with bread. It was home made and vegetarian and came with sliced bread. It was not good."
"The menu is unexciting, the food mediocre, and the prices a bit more than average."
"The Sunday roast was just ok roast potatoes not edible, too hard and greasy, but vegetables really good."
"We got the pork belly and found both the meat and the vegetables tasteless."
"Fish and chips: fish was tasty but small and chips were greasy and soggy."
"My husbands beef stew had dumplings and they looked and tasted dry and crumbly, more like a scone."
