Service

Pros:

  • "Our waitress Charlotte was just a little dream, she was so efficient and super friendly."
  • "The staff were absolutely excellent, hard working and professional."
  • "The service was friendly and efficient."
  • "Staff were professional and attentive."
  • "The service was really good and food was reasonably quick considering they was fully booked."
  • "The service was also superb."
  • "Great service from friendly attentive staff."

Cons:

  • "Service could be improved, one does have to repeat oneself quite a lot and even then we still experienced some misunderstandings."
  • "They kind of gave us the worst table even when others were empty."
  • "Food is excellent but service is poor. When my brother in law asked for table, we were told the tables are all booked. But when I went inside and spoke perfect English, we had a table."
  • "Staff with no understanding of British etiquette."
  • "Service not as good as usual, no offer to take coats, no drinks order taken until food order."
  • "Service just wasn't attentive or authentic."
  • "As soon as your food was done the plate was gone before I had time to finish chewing the food in my mouth. It felt a bit rushed rather than a relaxed dining experience."

Ambience

Pros:

  • "Ambience fabulous."
  • "The style was sympathetic to the period and the feel was modern but cosy and classy."
  • "Surroundings (lovely and quaint with plenty of room)"
  • "The atmosphere inside is great with lovely old wooden beams and interesting pictures."
  • "Delightful little restaurant in Shakespeare’s home town. Quaint 16th century building, low beams, excellent staff."
  • "It feels cosy inside."
  • "The yard which was warm and cosy as it was closed off from the wind and had heat lamps."

Cons:

  • "The restaurant itself is clean and can cater for all manner of different party sizes which is great, but it does feel a little like a café from the 80's."
  • "Certainly not a good place to get drunk."
  • "Quite a formal atmosphere, so definitely more a restaurant for a posh treat or a romantic meal for two rather than a fun buzzy night out."
  • "The only downside, was it doesn't come with bread, so you have to order that separately."
  • "We sat outside to enjoy a nice dinner and while looking at the menu (lovely choice), got blasted by loud music and got up to leave."
  • "The downside for us was the atmosphere, we found it a little snooty."
  • "I would not recommend it for people taller than 175 cm as you can hurt your head."

Food

Pros:

  • "Can thoroughly recommend the crayfish starter, duck breast and the parfait."
  • "Delicious food chosen from the set menu."
  • "The food was served quickly and was cooked and presented very well. Full of subtle flavours, excellent."
  • "Food is excellent but service is poor."
  • "Had a wonderful 3 course meal a la carte with wine and all for under £100 which I thought was great value for money considering the location and quality of food."
  • "Even my vegetarian friend had a good amount of choice."
  • "The food is really good, I highly recommend the lamb shank."

Cons:

  • "The dauphinoise potato... Well. Unfortunately it was not the best I've ever tried."
  • "Food was pretty tasteless, we've had 4 meals, 3 out of them were Sunday roast, we've only got one little bowl with vegetables between 3 of us."
  • "Not many items of vegetarian food in the menu."
  • "Today paid £16.95 for a cottage pie with literally no meat."
  • "Only one main course meal option for vegetarians... sadly it was not nice at all over spiced uneatable."
  • "The red wine jus really needed to reduce down further to get some more taste in, and the dauphonise potatoes were good if, a little dry, overdone on the top."
  • "Food good, but lamb rack slightly tough and cold in the centre. Fat not rendered at all."

Value

Pros:

  • "Decent food, that's reliable and fairly priced, but not exceptional value for money."
  • "Particularly liked that they offered carafes (half bottles) so if you want white with starter and red with main, for example, you can do so without having to buy by the glass which can get expensive, or buy by the bottle which can get boozy!"
  • "Excellent value for money £19.99 for 2 course."
  • "Reasonably priced for the quality."
  • "Definitely worth a visit, if you can, go during the time, when they have their 2 courses for £20 and 3 courses for £25."
  • "Food is excellent value. Good quality."
  • "Considering the quality of food and service the price was extremely reasonable."

Cons:

  • "Prices are a little strong but wines are reasonable."
  • "Drinks are a bit on the pricey side but the costs are comparable with other similar establishments."
  • "Excellent food but a little on the pricey side compared to other Stratford restaurants."
  • "It's definitely a restaurant for special occasions as it is quite expensive."
  • "We appreciate food costs have risen but this no longer represents value for money."
  • "The price for drinks and 2 courses of dinner without dessert for 4 persons was £160."
  • "All for £25 plus a £3.50 steak surcharge."
