Food Quality and Variety

Pros:

  • "Main course we all had turkey, well portioned and very tasty."
  • "The food is always tasty and I thoroughly enjoyed the chicken tikka curry!"
  • "Childrens meals were £5.99 for 3 courses brilliant value."
  • "The camembert burger was very very nice!"
  • "Definitely one of my favourite places to eat right now. Lots of vegan choice."
  • "The food was fantastic. We ordered from the Christmas menu which is 2 courses for 12.99!"
  • "Really good quality breakfast. Lots of continental to choose from."

Cons:

  • "If you didn’t want a bottle of j2o soft drink or a glass of wine everything was a supplement."
  • "Most main meals came with extra supplements except salad and fish chips."
  • "The picture explains all and it was cold. Main was mixed grill at an extra supplement."
  • "The food was just average, won’t be going back."
  • "Waitresses attitude stunk... The chips were minging and the pie was rock hard and just warm."
  • "The burger was served raw on the inside. Furthermore our prawns and calamari were cold, and mac and cheese was burnt."
  • "The main course food, was lukewarm. The coating on this wings, tenders and fish was burnt."
  • "The food arrived and was bad for one meal and okay for the other two."
  • "The gammon steak was tough and undercooked and after waiting till everyone else had nearly finished one person was told the last of the lasagne had been burnt."

Staff and Service

Pros:

  • "The staff were superb, a brilliant menu and all of our food was served to the highest standards."
  • "My friend and I came here for dinner, great service from the start, friendly staff."
  • "Staff always happy to accommodate if you bring a cake."

  • "Called in this morning without booking, greeted by a lovely lady... This lady is a credit to cookhouse."
  • "Joy at Breakfast and Harry at Dinner were both fantastic! Food was lovely and edible and overall a great atmosphere."
  • "Good food and service and we liked the relaxed atmosphere which is great when you have kids in tow."

Cons:

  • "Staffing issues would appear to be the biggest problem here as we witnessed the same staff wandering around aimlessly."
  • "Waitresses attitude stunk towards all of the people on our table."
  • "Booked a table for Sunday lunch, arrived only to be told there were no Sunday lunches available."
  • "It took way too long to be served at the Bar."
  • "The waitresses and staff are all friendly and attentive. That’s the only reason I’ve given 2 stars. Minus 3, for appalling food."
  • "Staff seemed to think they were doing a favour making bills by hand and just complained all the time about doing so."
  • "We waited ages for our mains and when it arrived one of the orders was incorrect and it was almost cold but it tasted OK."
  • "Once again no standard fish and chips from menu. Otherwise food we had was fine. Too many noisy children with parents unable to keep them under control."
  • "The service was not good and no manners at all."

Value for Money

Pros:

  • "A lovely pub with very reasonable mid-week prices for the great quality of food."
  • "Excellent place to have a meal and drink. Lovely happy staff and food was very tasty and good portions."
  • "Childrens meals were £5.99 for 3 courses brilliant value. Will definitely visit again."
  • "We will certainly consider booking for next Christmas day, really good value at £42.99."
  • "The pub was cold most people sat in their coats... The young man who served us today at lunch though was lovely."
  • "Had 2 lovely meals there this weekend as family were staying at the Premier Inn. The serloin steak and beer battered chicken burger were lovely."
  • "Lovely food at a great price with offers on for to suit most pockets."
  • "Eat as much as you like for less than a tenner! Great variety of juices, yoghurts, breads etc and a full English with as much tea and coffee as you like."

Cons:

  • "My starter was potato with cheese bacon served with sour cream. The picture explains all and it was cold."
  • "Worst place possible. I stayed at the premier inn adjoined to the pub. I had booked a meal deal."
  • "The staff seem to be completely overwhelmed. Noisy place too. I can’t remember the last place I felt so ignored."
  • "Service with as smile... BUT my Lasagne (beef) I ordered had very little meat. Also the Garlic bread didn't taste of anything."
  • "Staff and food was okay service so slow over 2 hours from start to finish. Booked a table for party of 5 3 days before hand when we got there they had never heard of us."
  • "Food here was okay and staff were friendly, the cleanliness and the wait let it down. The table we sat at had loads of cake debris under it."
  • "Booked a table and it was in a nice location not filled with kids or teens nice environment. The food was meh."
  • "Shocking meal a few Sundays ago. My wife could not cut her roast beef even with a steak knife. Told the stuff but they were unconcerned."
  • "Not suitable for children, a lot more expensive than what it was at the woodpecker, don't have a refillable drinks machine so you have to pay over £2.00 to get a small kids drink and you can't refill it."
