Animal Variety

Pros:

  • "They had amazing animals, some that I had never even seen before."
  • "The otters, lemurs, tayras and ocelot were my personal favourites on the day."
  • "A nice selection of animals, including some more unusual ones, such as Geoffroy's cat and Aardwolf."
  • "Larger than expected. Great selection of wildlife."
  • "Lots of different animals to see. The place isn't too big so nice to pop in for an hour or two."
  • "We did the Tapir and Capibara experience and had a great time."
  • "The zoo has many unusual animals that you can get close to."
  • "The animals they have are much less common to see (if not always as exciting as lions, etc)."

Cons:

  • "This place is a dive! Hardly any animals there, and if there is you can’t see half of them."
  • "We saw hardly any of the animals and the ones you could see we felt sorry for... the enclosures were tiny and poorly designed."
  • "Most of the enclosures have the bare minimum in them."
  • "Hardly any animals and the ones you could see we felt sorry for... the enclosures were tiny and poorly designed."
  • "We spent about 1.5 hrs there and had a nice coffee and homemade cake. Was worth the entrance fee. There was some improvements going on when we went so not all was open to view."
  • "Not what I expected. Only a few small enclosures with birds and lemurs."
  • "Few animals to see... area bit tired... shame just needs more to see animals"
  • "Most of the animals were not visible in their enclosures, either because they were hiding or just not there."

Staff Knowledge and Friendliness

Pros:

  • "The staff were all lovely and they had amazing animals."
  • "We were greeted by friendly staff and George our guide came up to take us round."
  • "The staff was really kind & experienced, and you can find loads of information about the animals."
  • "The keeper talks are really good too, and I overheard someone saying the animal experiences were really good too."
  • "The staff are very friendly and seemed like they actually wanted to be there."
  • "The staff were lovely and the talks really interesting, they were happy to answer many questions."
  • "Every member of staff said good morning, which was very nice."
  • "The staff at the centre are all very friendly, plus knowledgeable about their area of work."

Cons:

  • "There were no talks during the time we were there, nor did any staff bring any animals out."
  • "Not very entertaining. Just far too expensive for what it is."
  • "I tried phoning the zoo three times; each time I was told that the manager would phone me back as they were out feeding the animals at the time."
  • "We couldn't find a single member of staff. In the end decided it wasn't worth the effort."
  • "I wanted to have a word with staff about our visit when leaving, but there was no-one to be found."
  • "One improvement they could make would be to make the talks more frequent as there wasn't enough to do between the half hourly sessions."

Facilities and Amenities

Pros:

  • "The food was really tasty, and suitably priced as well."
  • "The tearoom also has great food, so I'd definitely recommend having a bite afterwards."

Cons:

  • "The only small issue I have is the quality of the toilets."
  • "Parking is so limited - about 15 spots."
  • "Very disappointed, I know it's for kids but being animal lovers we had to take a look. Didn't like the fact we had to pay 25p extra for using a debit card."
  • "The toilet facilities were subpar, I was reluctant to use the facilities with my 15 month old baby."
  • "The place is extremely small and we got round it within 20 minutes. We also had a pram and struggled to push it round and it just seemed to be in the way constantly."
  • "The parking is awful."
  • "The baby changing facility is halfway through rather than near the entrance/exit and wasn't that clean."
  • "The toilets are not disabled accessible."

Animal Welfare and Enclosures

Pros:

  • "The animals were all so well kept and my little great niece and nephew loved it."
  • "Absolutely fantastic! The unusual animal collection is a must see! The enclosures are excellent with so much stimulation for all the species."
  • "A lovely small conservation centre focussed on in breeding endangered animals."
  • "All the animals are relaxed, happy and definitely well cared for."
  • "The centre is quite small but it wasn’t too busy when we visited which meant that we got to see the animals up close, take our time, and speak to the keepers as we went round."
  • "We did visit a couple of years ago and that was a good experience too. Since then they have revamped and expanded."
  • "It's small enough to go around twice so if any animals are inside on the first loop, they might be playing outside on the second."
  • "The animals looked well cared for."

Cons:

  • "The only minus for me would be that the enclosures did look a little small for some of the animals."
  • "The maned wolf they have was just pacing around in circles, enclosures overgrown with weeds and the whole place very run down."
  • "A sad state of affairs !! This place is a dive! Hardly any animals there, and if there is you can’t see half of them, small enclosures that have the bare minimum in them."
  • "Hardly any animals and the ones you could see we felt sorry for... the enclosures were tiny and poorly designed."
  • "The enclosures are small, some exhibits are glorified sheds."
  • "The enclosures are so flimsy, cheaply built, filthy, and rat infested. Rats were everywhere!"
  • "Tiny, flimsy enclosures, filthy, sad animals, miserable experience!"
  • "The pens/ cages were too small for the poor animals. One poor cat looked quite distressed and nowhere for the Tucan to fly."
