Customer Service

Pros:

  • "The staff are courteous and friendly."
  • "Great service from all the staff and there was such a great vibe."
  • "The customer service is absolutely one of the shining aspects of the venue; the staff really make sure to consider the customer experience and look after you as much as they can."
  • "We went there on Sunday 3rd Nov for my husband's surprise 60th, there were 27 of us, the staff were all very organised, all our food came out together and every dinner was perfect."
  • "I had my 30th birthday party at Hove Place last Saturday and the staff really looked after us and made it an extra special evening."
  • "Service was attentive, polite and sincere whilst busy with a great atmosphere, will definitely be returning πŸ‘πŸ˜πŸ½"
  • "Our waiter, Scott, was really attentive and so funny, he made our evening."

Cons:

  • "I did feel a little bit rushed as we had our table for 2 hours, were reminded of it several times and were told 30 mins into our booking that we only had an hour left."
  • "Unfortunately, of late the staff members seem to 'feed off' her negative miserable vibes; leading to sometimes having poor, sloppy, substandard service."
  • "Very poor service with an extremely rude manager (the old one with a beard)."
  • "The one HUGE negative in this place, which impacts on us using the bar more is the manager. She is terse, miserable, rude and abrupt in her manner."
  • "The servers were so incredibly cold, detached and disinterested."
  • "Slow service from 20 somethings who don't seem to know/care about customers."
  • "The service was poor. 2hr slot are more than enough for eating, but having the waiter to remind you about leaving the table every 15 minutes is a bit too much and unnecessary."

Food Quality

Pros:

  • "Food was alright (roast alright but cauliflower cheese was stone cold)."
  • "Absolutely stunning Roast dinner this evening! Food was phenomenal and can’t recommend it enough."
  • "The roast potatoes were excellent and freshly cooked (no frozen ones in here) tasty vegan wellington with all the trimmings."
  • "The potatoes and all veg here were superb."
  • "Both were delicious and the meat cooked and seasoned perfectly, to the point where it would melt in your mouth."
  • "The baguettes we ordered were so delicious too! Probably the best baguette sandwich I've ever had."
  • "The food was excellent, and the staff were lovely - they also had good knowledge of allergens and were able to recommend gluten-free options for me from the menu."

Cons:

  • "Visited Hove Place for a light lunch on 2nd Jan, ordering soup... it was also practically inedible due to the vast amount of salt."
  • "Sadly, the food was really rather awful- tough beef, lack of vegetarian options, overpriced tiny puddings."
  • "Main course was a big let down fish so overcooked couldn't get it off the bone."
  • "Paid Β£20 for it and didn't eat a single thing apart from a carrot."
  • "An average vegetarian roast dinner and not worth money."
  • "Our fish finger baguette with salad and chips were extremely overcooked, so dry that you couldn’t guess it’s a fish at all."
  • "The halloumi burger was disgusting with too much tomato sauce and pickle and the halloumi was coated in breadcrumbs which seems unnecessary when it's served in a bun."

Ambiance and Facilities

Pros:

  • "Lovely garden, easily accessed by pushchairs (only one step) and dog friendly."
  • "Really nice modern wood paneled pub, out of the way between the main road through Hove and the sea. It has a beautiful garden and excellent food we had lobster linguine and I had rump steak."
  • "The interior is super beautiful, wooden features are cosy, not to mention they have a fire place."
  • "It was cosy, warm and wood panelled where we sat, a complete surprise (in a good way) it wasn't what I'd expected from the outside!"
  • "This spacious outdoor retreat, adorned with lush greenery and ample seating, is the perfect setting for any gathering."
  • "Lovely little relaxed hidey hole. With a sunken Mediterranean garden outside."
  • "It has a really nice garden in the back with heatlamps and a sheltered area allowing you to enjoy the outside area even if it's colder."

Cons:

  • "The pub also smelt like gravy mixed with bbq sauce."
  • "Roast potatoes were like boulders."
  • "The music can sometimes be loud and not fitting the venue (bit Weatherspoon's)."
  • "Very nice garden in the back. But the chairs are uncomfortable specially in hot weather."
  • "Venturing into Hove Place, newcomers might find the distinct, somewhat 'porky' aroma of the pub interior noticeable."
  • "A very nice layout inside, but noisy when it gets busy."
  • "Sitting outside in the garden there was no sun wots so ever."

Value for Money

Pros:

  • "Food is great, superb variety and well priced."
  • "The Sunday roast here is just phenomenal, it's a little on the pricey side but there is a reason for it (and it is worth every penny)."
  • "The food was worth every penny."
  • "Gourmet pub food with a beautiful beer garden."
  • "This pub attracts the trendy set and prices are higher than you might pay elsewhere. That said the garden is one of the best in Hove and they do everything well."
  • "It is an amazing place, the service great and they also have a wonderful back garden!"
  • "The food is excellent, I would definitely recommend trying one of their Charcuterie dishes - delicious!"

Cons:

  • "Excellent service from staff but they need to show prices as asked how much the wine was and all they said its house white wine and did not get given the price after 4 drinks and 4 small meals and Β£172.87 later found out how much it was."
  • "I would say a little bit pricey for what it is (you can get a much better roast for the same price in London)."
  • "CanapΓ© mediocre at best. starters disappointing seemed like leftovers."
  • "I should hv read the menu too as that steak cost Β£35!"
  • "Paid Β£20 for it and didn't eat a single thing apart from a carrot."
  • "However it is very expensive. Β£5.20 for a shandy seems a bit much, even by millennial hipster standards."
  • "Pub food, small portions at Michelin star prices."
