Food Quality

Pros:

  • "The food quality is through the roof, and everything is made in front of your eyes."
  • "The fish tastes fresh and flaky, cooked so nicely in the batter."
  • "Honestly can say that this was the best fish and chips I've had!"
  • "The batter and chips are proper and crispy and not too oily like some places."

Cons:

  • "Not the greatest fish and chips we’ve had... more batter than fish and other than tasting very oily, there wasn’t much flavor."
  • "Sadly, when we received our food, we were disappointed. The Cod... was around the sort of standard I remember being served by school dinner ladies, with thin, flaky batter."
  • "The fish inside was tender and not dry. The chips were okayish. The sauce was not very good since it was rather sour."
  • "Fish was not amazing, very crispy outside and soggy inside of batter."

Service

Pros:

  • "Service was fast and staff were lovely!"
  • "The staff in there are funny and nice."
  • "Very welcoming atmosphere thanks to the staff."
  • "Service was friendly. No indoor seating but there are a few tables outside."

Cons:

  • "Never go here when it’s busy, first they are very slow. Secondly they will cheat you. I have been to this place many times and I know the sizes of their fish."
  • "The google images are deceptive this restaurant has a very small outdoor seating area only... the service is appallingly slow."
  • "Service was great but the food..... We were expecting a lot after seeing the amount of people outside for the previous 2 nights."
  • "First of all, the staff have a lot of attitude so do not expect to be treated with any civility."

Value for Money

Pros:

  • "Reasonable prices, special price for OAP at only £4.50."
  • "Great little shop a short walk from the sea front. Ordered 3 of the £5.50 lunch deals, cod, haddock and banana blossom. All tasted great."
  • "Wonderfully warm service, gave us a 25% NHS discount which they should advertise more!"
  • "By far the best fish and chip shop we tried in Brighton! The lunch offer is a must-try (£5.50 for a mini fish and chips)."

Cons:

  • "£20 for 2 battered sausages chips and frozen scampi. Crazy."
  • "Despite the fairly steep prices, we thought we’d made the right choice as the restaurant seemed busy."
  • "Service was great but the food..... We were expecting a lot after seeing the amount of people outside for the previous 2 nights."
  • "The fish and chip option is large and tasty. I will be working my way through the menu as I can and will. I can't recommend this place more as they will cook all fresh for you while you wait, which isn't very long."

Vegan/Vegetarian Options

Pros:

  • "They’ve also got veggie options which is really cool!"
  • "Me and friend were in Brighton for the day and we’re both vegan so checked this place out... Very welcoming atmosphere thanks to the staff."
  • "The food is incredible and the selection of vegan options is really good too."
  • "Delicious! I had a few of the vegan/ vegetarian options and they didn't disappoint!"

Cons:

  • "They’d also run out of vegan options when we visited after 6pm on a Sunday which was disappointing."
  • "Paid extra for vegan tartar sauce which was very nice."
  • "VEGETARIANS / VEGANS BEWARE! I originally gave them five stars due to them having great chips, prices, homemade sauces and seemingly nice staff. However, I have revised my review to 2 stars."
  • "Though compared to its predecessor The Daily Catch, which to us was by far the best locally, we are sadly unimpressed. Skin on the fish, yuk. Batter slightly soggy inside, though not too bad compared to most of Brighton."
