Cinema Experience
Pros:
"The absolute best independent cinema in the local area. Always has the most interesting selection and all 3 screens are great!"
"It's comfy, not much queuing, great value for money and friendly."
"Always a delight to see a film at this excellent, Independent Cinema and arts centre."
"The Box cinema has a lovely homely vibe with the sofas and armchairs and the other two cinemas give that classic theatre feel which is ideal for those big screen films."
"The cinemas are amongst the most comfortable I know, and delightfully free of the usual noisy sweets and popcorn."
"You can also see the latest film releases here. Small, intimate theatres are always a bonus."
"This is a brilliant cinema! The ticket prices are very reasonable and they screen a variety of old and new films!"
Cons:
"Chair was a little tight."
"Quite a high step with a lip above be careful when stepping up or down to get from the ramp to the seats."
"Patrons frequently shuffle in late, are noisy, and often slightly tipsy."
"The screen is high up in relation to the seating arrangement, which involved a great risk of a crick in the neck."
"None of the screens are big, so I wouldn't see a blockbuster here."
"The Box is like a poorly laid out living room with a big home projector and I would literally sooner not see a movie than go."
"Although, the place was only half full, it was so noisy that we couldn't hear each other."
Food and Beverages
Pros:
"Food is excellent, service likewise but the acoustics in the bar/café are truly appalling!"
"We also had lunch in the cafe before we went in, my mom had a burger and chips and I had a beef stew & the food was exquisite."
"Great cafe serving vegetarian options, tapas and a range of drinks."
"Great drinks, cake and food at the cafe too (particularly the carrot cake)!"
"Their excellent bistro cafe is a fantastic place for a bite to eat, with great menu options all at realistic prices."
"Friends and I enjoyed variety of meals from sandwiches, British meals to pizzas and burgers."
"Menu is small but lovely. Pizzas are great but I recommend the BLT."
Cons:
"The food is really very very bad. It's like fast food quality served extremely slowly."
"No longer recommend the quad for food. No vegan pizza, no purple rain tea."
"Ate here a week ago with family. The bread was stale, and to try to hide this had been soaked in butter. Just made it stale and greasy. I wouldn't visit again."
"Eaten at the cafe twice, both times been assured that what I ordered was gluten free and both times had a reaction within an hour, never eating there again."
"I ordered the sweet chilli crispy chicken and it was not sweet or crispy, the coleslaw was flaccid and chips were ok."
"The food was served in box like a chippy which isn't environmentally friendly. Skimpy portions as well."
"COFFEE RIP-OFF - I bought a takeaway flat coffee, when I removed the lid I see it’s not even ¾ full."
Staff and Service
Pros:
"The staff were so helpful when I went to the cinema."
"Chris and Jen helped my friend and I, Chris helping us upstairs and Jen helping us get snacks and then sort out the headsets for audio description."
"Staff are very friendly."
"Really helpful staff who made the experience less stressful in these times."
"All the staff are helpful and friendly."
"The staff are very welcoming and friendly, especially a nice bloke named John who often takes my tickets and directs us to the correct cinema room."
"The staff are welcoming and give fast service."
Cons:
"The staff all kids had no clue what they were doing like a woman behind me said we could have gone round counter and made it quicker with a kettle from the kitchen suffice to say I will never visit this place again."
"One guy arguing with me about what was on the menu when I could read it and he couldn't."
"Coffee was nice enough but the lady on reception this morning was rude."
"Unhelpful box office receptionist left me feeling humiliated."
"Cafe attached but grumpy staff there took ages to bring our coffee."
"The staff are just bizarre - as others have noted quite rude."
"Got off the bus and desperately needed the toilet. I walked in and was told that I was only allowed to use the toilet if I was a paying customer."
Facilities and Accessibility
Pros:
"Parking at the assembly rooms can be validated for 2.50 all day which is great value."
"If you're under 25 tickets are only £3.50!"
"Comfiest cinema seats in Derby."
"Lift available for those with mobility problems."
"Brilliant art gallery, cinema, cafe and work space with a great atmosphere and facilities(toilets and lifts) that cater for those in wheelchairs and those without."
"Ample parking and easy access to lots of convenient bars and restaurants should give this bonus points."
"You can buy alcohol and take it into the auditorium which is a plus."
Cons:
"Just got back from Watching Book Club, brilliant film. Place was very nice, staff very friendly and helpful, I am an above knee Amputee and wheelchair user and nothing was too much trouble. Only down side was, normally when I go to the cinema with friends or family my carer gets in free, not at the Quad, not even concession rate it was full price!!"
"Food can be expensive though, compared with similar quality throughout the rest of the city."
"The lift was out of order so it would have been a problem for disabled visitors."
"Update 2021: had to remove a star due to the gender neutral toilets. I don't feel comfortable using the toilets anymore and think this was a bad decision."
"A few toilets were out of order on Wednesday, which made it a bit tricky."
"Small screen even has sofas and armchairs."
"Once in the cinema screen, the seats looked outdated, & stained, with them happily asking £7.50!"

"Definitely worth signing up for the cinekids if you have little ones as screenings are so much cheaper."
