  • "The steak and chips always seem particularly generous."
  • "The dishes we have tried are all piping hot and well prepared. The quality of food is excellent."
  • "Roast dinner was delicious; a full plateful."
  • "The food was fantastic, great variety of beer and a large garden with play area for the kids."

Cons:

  • "I came here one night for a drink and a light bite- staff great, very friendly, came here a few nights after for a full meal off the a la carte menu and was sorely disappointed- the food was ok, but- paid 3 pounds for 5 olives!!!"
  • "Bel and The Dragon is in a lovely setting but I felt the food was only ok, especially for the price."
  • "Disappointed by the roast chicken for 4 they served, which came out bloody and raw."
  • "Everything we ate was ok but nothing outstanding and at the price we expected a bit more."
  • "As for the food its sadly become generic, over priced and poorly portioned."
  • "Over priced mediocre food. The Sunday roast chicken was dry and the beef tough."
  • "The Winter Vegetable Bourguignon was listed as including 'Sundried Tomatoes, Walnuts, Puy Lentils' but did not mention that the walnuts were candied so there was an unexpected hard sweet element which was not good."

Service

Pros:

  • "Mark and the team were fantastic hosts."
  • "Service was great, looked after so well."
  • "Every single member of staff we met was happy, polite and eager to help."
  • "The staff were brilliant - particularly the young waitress who was very attentive and with good humour."
  • "The staff we fabulous that night."
  • "The staff are friendly, efficient and knowledgeable."
  • "Staff were very friendly from the outset."

Cons:

  • "Left waiting over 15 minutes with dirty plates despite idle staff ignoring me."
  • "Considering the number of staff on duty in the restaurant it all seemed a bit disorganized and the girls serving seemed to be socializing with each other a bit too much."
  • "We waited and eventually ordered drinks on their app as the wait staff was nowhere to be found."
  • "Poached eggs (two separate orders) and bacon were overcooked and the food took way too long to come considering it was not at all busy."
  • "Shockingly slow service. £15.90 for three Cokes, a sparkling mineral water and an apple juice."
  • "Really bad restaurant service - waited an hour and a half for lunch and when we got it, one person's was missing - never arrived."
  • "But the staff didn't know where our table was and wandered around the garden looking to place our food order."

Value for Money

Pros:

  • "Incredible place, excellent value for money and quietly epic!"
  • "Good food, lovely staff and nice rooms for the price."
  • "Great food and drink. Lunch menu is good at reasonable price."
  • "Accommodation was reasonably priced for a large room with an equally large bathroom and shower."
  • "For the money 5 stars."

Cons:

  • "Not value for money at £159 per night and definitely not luxury."
  • "Paid 10 pounds including service charges for table spoon of salad leaves, a teaspoon of goats cheese, two cherry tomatoes cut in half and drizzle of balsamic vinegar."
  • "We ordered the house wine which comes as a magnum and you are charged for what you drink - they measure it on the ruler at the end... However the white magnum price is £44 and we expected to be charged at that proportional rate. We ended up charged by the glass at the 125ml glass price of £4.50 which is a magnum price of £54."
  • "Can’t believe we went to the bar had one beer and a glass of wine and the bill included a 12% service charge!"
  • "The food in the restaurant is quite pricey."
  • "Quite possibly the most expensive pub I've ever been into. £19 for a Sunday roast?"
  • "Stupendously expensive for the quality of food that they serve."

Atmosphere & Setting

Pros:

  • "This a surprisingly large (& historic) establishment otherwise well hidden in a densely forested section of the Surrey Hills."
  • "Sit outside in the garden and grab a pizza from the outdoor oven or go swanky in the restaurant."
  • "A lovely, relaxing stay. Beautiful weather so we were able to enjoy the large garden."
  • "Lovely pub with a great beer garden tucked in the woods, next to the sculpture park."
  • "Beautiful place in a nice relaxing area, with big spacious outside garden with lawn and play area for the kids."
  • "The location in perfect 'village England' setting is augmented by a large and impressive sculpture park opposite."
  • "The general atmosphere of the pub/restaurant/hotel was relaxed and pleasant."

Cons:

  • "Almost empty on a Saturday summer evening must tell you something?"
  • "Bel and The Dragon is in a lovely setting but I felt the food was only ok, especially for the price. It's also a large open space which looks lovely but it was so, so loud."
  • "No atmosphere and bar one other table, it was empty."
  • "One staff member looked hungover, another was swearing, another clattering around moving Chairs and tables - not the most relaxing breakfast environment."
  • "It's an okay place but overly pretentious with a weird cigar case and steep prices."
  • "The staff display minimal attentiveness."
  • "Very disappointed on this occasion, when it comes to food and drink I expect to be offered the chance to have the service charge omitted or left on my bill."
