Food Quality

Pros:

  • "The food was tasty and fresh and the portions of the mains (chicken katsu and sizzling salmon teriyaki) were massive."
  • "Food is always to die for!!"
  • "A real hidden gem! Probably the best place within many a mile to get authentic Japanese food that too at the most reasonable of prices."
  • "The sushi at this establishment is an absolute triumph, truly an ode to the art of Japanese cuisine."
  • "This is by far the best food I've had here at such an affordable price & friendly service."
  • "Food is amazing, actually the best Japanese around."
  • "The dishes are closer to the original Asian recipes than dishes from other restaurants."

Cons:

  • "Sushi doesn't look fresh, the taste is dull, too much mayo on each piece."
  • "The prawn crackers were chewy and warm. The vegetable Gyoza was very greasy."
  • "However some of their food seems frozen which does not taste great when cooked."
  • "The Singaporean fry noodles was horribly salty."
  • "The duck rice was marred by an ocean of disgustingly tasting non descript brown sauce."
  • "The food was NOT GOOD! The teriyaki chicken was just boiled chicken with boiled vegetables and sushi and sashimi were so frozen that you could only taste water."
  • "The Katsu curry had chewy chicken and potatoes cold in the middle. The flavour was lacking."

Service

Pros:

  • "There's nothing I don't recommend on the menu and the service is excellent too!"
  • "Service is always good. Nice staff for an Asian restaurant and quick service."
  • "Service was very friendly and super fast - their waiter is like a superhuman :)"
  • "The staff were friendly and attentive."
  • "Service great and byob."
  • "Service- 9/10, was very quick and to the point."
  • "Service was friendly and good value."

Cons:

  • "5 star for the food but the manager is very rude to Asian customers."
  • "Food is amazing, actually the best Japanese around, however the service! You get an hour to eat, and if you’re not done they are on your shoulders asking you to hurry up."
  • "The service is sadly not the best, I see employees working too hard in this place."
  • "I was surprised and appalled at the recent deeply unacceptable behaviour of a particularly hairless waiter."
  • "The bad luck was be served by a cocky waiter I believe was the sun of the owner, I can rate the worst service I ever received."
  • "Service is hit and miss depending on who you get."
  • "Courtesy was lacking by servers... mains were put on the table whilst we were still eating our starter (so rude)."

Value for Money

Pros:

  • "The food was generous in portion sizes and the price was good value too when compared with the quality."

  • "The food there is the bomb! Superb taste and very very very low price for such quality!"

Cons:

  • "Though sushi will be slightly expensive, as with any sushi place."
  • "Wouldn't recommend this place for sushi. Some of the rice was still warm when served and it was not seasoned."
  • "Price is also high. You can have top quality sushi at Pham Sushi in old street or in Angel area for less."
  • "The small sushi dishes can make it a bit pricey."
  • "Food a bit on the expensive side."
  • "While the food is not bad, I don’t think the dishes are original Japanese."
  • "The food however is nothing to be excited about. It's not horrible but below average."

Ambiance and Decor

Pros:

  • "Small and vibrant gem."
  • "It doesn’t look much from the outside but this is the definition of a rough diamond."
  • "The atmosphere is simple but neat."
  • "A tiny gem in Greenwich."
  • "The food menu is awesome, sometimes I'm feeling a ramen, sometimes a rice dish, sometimes a curry or perhaps a tray of Sushi."
  • "The food here is amazing, don't expect a top notch environment, the place resembles more of a cafe, service is short sharp and efficient, staff friendly, menu extensive and probably one of the best sushi places in the UK."
  • "Modest exterior but freshness and quality of the Japanese cuisine is high."

Cons:

  • "The restaurant itself is pretty shabby and small, so not great for a date."
  • "Sushi doesn't look fresh, the taste is dull, too much mayo on each piece and the dusty plastic decoration on the sushi trays just make it kitsch and poor hygiene."
  • "Very simple decor, more cafe than restaurant, plastic-top tables and they are quite close together."
  • "The ambiance inside is not the best."
  • "The atmosphere of the place is nothing special, maybe better to get for takeaway."
  • "The venue itself is very basic and a bit cramped."
  • "The restaurant is definitely not authentic Japanese... decor is dated."

  • "It’s bring your own booze with no corkage charge."
  • "No alcohol sold but you can bring your own and save money over usual restaurant wine prices."
  • "Plus you can bring your own cheap drinks from the nearby Tesco."
  • "You can bring your own alcoholic drinks as well."
  • "BYOB is also such a nice touch with really good value for money food prices as well."
  • "It hasn't got an alcohol licence but corkage is charged if you bring your own bottle."

Cons:

  • "It is also obvious that they are not paying their fair share to HMRC by only taking cash."
  • "CASH ONLY! We were not told this when we walked in, so had to walk down to Tesco to get cash."
  • "The only negative is that its Cash Only!"
  • "It’s Cash Only!"
  • "It is however cash-only so don't forget to bring your cash-money beforehand."
  • "Cash only - why not, people will pay for good food."
  • "NB. Bring cash should you still decide to try it for yourself as they don’t take card payments."
