Food Quality and Menu Selection

Pros:

  • "I tried the chicken Oyako Ramen and it was quite nice. Unlike the other Japanese ramen in London that would be seasoned way too salty and greasy, this one was moderate."
  • "Ramen was nice, classic noodle and classic presentation. chashu was soft and flavoursome but not the melt in your mouth kind."
  • "Despite being in a cost-of-living crisis Yamagoya offers great value, generous portions, great-tasting menu, friendly service!"
  • "The Yamagoya ramen was really nice. Very tasty tonkotsu broth."
  • "The soup base here is absolutely delicious, very very thick and full of flavour."
  • "Ramen here is really good. I like the service style (order at the counter), portion size (not too large) and the broth is really tasty, without being sickly rich."
  • "One of the best ramen I eat in London. I really enjoy the time here, it’s kinda look like you’re in Japan during the meal thanks to the ambient and thanks to the music they played."
  • "The food was tasty and very good value for money. I ordered the tobanjan ramen - the broth was thick and spicy in the way I really liked!"

Cons:

  • "Soup is tasty but a bit watery, not the thick traditional broth you’d expect for tonkotsu."
  • "The only aspect of potential improvement is adding more vegetarian options on the menu."
  • "The portions are also too small for the asking price, hence in my opinion not good value for money compared to their competitors."
  • "The only slight disappointment food-wise is the presentation. The noodles are all tangled and the toppings looks like they were just dumped into the bowl in a hurry."
  • "The quality of food is also low, tasted like instant noodles."
  • "The soup lacked any depth of flavour and seasoning. It just tasted like quite fatty spicy water which was really disappointing."
  • "The toppings were good but broth was a bit watery and noodles were too soft."
  • "Food was standard, expensive for what it was."

Service and Atmosphere

Pros:

  • "Staff was smiley when we entered the restaurant. She provided clear information on the seats and the way to order."
  • "The team was very friendly. I was particularly impressed by the fair prices."
  • "Staff members are all very welcoming and restaurant was clean."
  • "Staff gentle and amazing, the atmosphere it’s quiet and relaxant."

Cons:

  • "My partners bowl of soup was only half full, he politely asked for more broth and was rudely told it came like that and there was no way they would give him more broth."
  • "However the service is what brought the score down. The person at the counter was friendly however when we asked for our bowls to be filled with more broth, the supervisor/manager was stuck up and rude."
  • "Just be aware that it’s incredibly busy, so they won’t seat you unless everyone is there. And you can’t hang around for a chat because they really need the table back."
  • "The food is easy to order and comes relatively promptly... After finishing the meal... we were essentially told to leave to allow other customers to sit and eat. This is not done. Paid customers should be allowed to take their time!"
