Room Size and Design

Pros:

  • "Rooms are good but there are little areas which need tlc."
  • "The room - small but nicely appointed. It had clearly been though about and because it’s a reasonably new build it felt nice and clean and was comfortable."
  • "The rooms are fairly small, but quite comfortable."
  • "The rooms have a strange layout with the only window being in the bathroom and you only get as much daylight as it's coming through the glass bathroom door (which is not that big)."
  • "The room was spotlessly clean and nothing we could fault. Massive comfortable bed. Ensuite very modern."
  • "The room was lovely and very clean. I had a lovely night sleep, the room wasnt too cold or too hot."
  • "Rooms are lovely very clean brilliant shower and the bed was very comfy."
  • "Room was quite small and not sound proof Staff around the hotel were lovely Restaraunt food was lovely.qould eat there again."

Cons:

  • "First and foremost, I was disappointed to find that my room was considerably smaller than I had anticipated."
  • "The rooms were very small, the bathroom door was glass and not sealed, so there was no privacy, the loo was very visible through the door!"
  • "Rooms are very small and quite basic. Shower pressure was low and toiletries were of low quality."
  • "Rooms are quirky but clean and in good order, beds are comfy, tv good and shower good with excellent shower gel / shampoo. Some rooms are quiet however on my last stay I was positioned over what sounds like a drop forge which I believe is actually some type of gym equipment, end result is if you are trying to rest during the day you cant."
  • "Nice modern hotel. Hate the fact these hotels charge for parking but you can get free by joining their revolution club thing. Rooms are ok but very small. Don’t love having the bathroom on the outside of the room and a glass door on the bathroom provides no privacy."
  • "The rooms were very tidy But I did overhear conversation by the housekeeping manager she was extremely rude to the young girl cleaning and you could see the girl was upset Very unprofessional and should never speak to a member of staff like this i would be absoulty disgusted if this was my daughter or family member being spoken to like that Maybe you should get rid of the manager and yes I did catch her name Mandy for this reason I won't be returning and shall go else where when I'm on my next business trip Other than that the room was spotless well done to the young girls doing it sorry you have such an awful manager."
  • "Nasty little room. No wardrobe, no towel rails, no window in the room. Downstairs looks like a USA airport. There is an additional charge for parking even though its clearly a location you won't reach on foot. Saving grace is that the staff are good and efficient. Not a hotel for us."
  • "I didn't actually manage to book a room. I'm a member of the gym so thought I would book via them and that would hopefully make it cheaper. I got sent right around the houses via several calls only to eventually find out there wasn't any available rooms. After my first initial phone all of being quoted £204.00 but not being able to book as its apparently cheaper if I book online. Wasted 45 mins of my time. I must admit every time I've rang to make an enquiry ive had bad service!"

Gym and Leisure Facilities

Pros:

  • "The gym - huge benefit and nice gym to be able to use. Loved having access to a reasonable pool, sauna, steam room, and work out facilities. One of the try highlights of the stay."
  • "Gym member here and it’s a brilliant gym. The equipment, access and facilities are excellent."
  • "I’m a gym member and have enjoyed my first 6 months here. All staff members are friendly and helpful. Good variety of classes as well as good equipment in the gym."
  • "I have been a member of the gym for a few months now, a really friendly crowd."
  • "Use the gym multiple times a week. Gym is always clean and tidy (apart from lazy people not putting their weight plates away sometimes!). Staff are always super friendly."
  • "I’ve been a member of the Village Gym - Southampton since launch and can honestly say that it is the best gym I’ve ever been to."
  • "I joined the gym a year ago, and I am now going twice a week to the Les Mills Strength Development class, which I really enjoy."
  • "The gym is very good with a great range of equipment. The pool was lovely with a jacuzzi sauna and steam room."

Cons:

  • "Cannot comment on gym or pool as it doesn't open until 8am on a Sunday for guests but seemed very popular!"
  • "The gym (and the health suite) is really great but gets really busy at times."
  • "The gym is nice, some wear and tear now it's a few years old, the floor is not well maintained in the free weights section."
  • "Cheaply decorated, pokey rooms at \"hipster\" prices. Bad-mannered staff who seem gobsmacked to be asked at 5:30 for a table in the restaurant for sometime (anytime) on a Friday evening saying \"they're all fully booked\" even though loads of tables were clearly empty and stayed that way for the next few hours!"
  • "The food in the restaurant is some of the worst I've ever had. I know it's a chain but this is below a wetherspoons and more expensive, I had a katsu curry, the chicken was with breadcrumb not panko, basically they were cheap over processed goujons you could buy in the Asda next door for £3. The sauce was also tasteless, comes in a tin and microwaved, I'm certain. The rice was ok, actually boiled but had been sat for a while I'd guess. For £17 I was really disappointed."
  • "All in all for the price of the room and not getting access to the gym it's a bit of a rip off and no better than a premier inn, but it's way more expensive with an awful restaurant attached."
  • "The food in the bar downstairs is overpriced and just average. I'd expect better for the money you pay."
  • "The gym is nice, some wear and tear now it's a few years old, the floor is not well maintained in the free weights section. However the chain have stopped giving gym passes to all hotel guests now and only offers them to the deluxe packages. This didn't used to be the case and a gym pass is extremely expensive for a day. Luckily they offer a day trial on the website, I was only staying 2 nights. The pool and sauna are good."
