Atmosphere & Location

Pros:

  • "Been going there for 40 years and thankfully it has changed very little. Great yachting history and there are always some real characters there including the legendary landlord Simon!"
  • "A great outdoor undercover seating area with big screen TV and patio heaters."
  • "A nicely tucked away gem. Proper country pub. Great atmosphere, open fire and good beers."
  • "What a lovely pub. All the staff were very welcoming."
  • "Perfect Pitt-stop after a long bike ride over the reserve. We enjoyed some drinks in the beer garden in the sun."
  • "Lovely pub with choice of cosy indoor seating, courtyard seating with big screen tv for sport as well as pretty garden at rear of pub."
  • "A very local pub with a yachtie person's feel. Welcoming to strangers too."

Cons:

  • "Got taken here for my birthday what a let down after ordering two rounds of drinks when we asked about food got told it wasn't busy enough for them to cook."
  • "Parking in short supply so it is common to double park in front of pub."
  • "Most of the garden for with the screen you couldn’t actually see the TV so if you’re going to watch there I’d say get there early doors so you can see."
  • "If you like sitting on a table that is wet and mouldy, in a wet and mouldy tent with the wind blowing through it I highly recommend."
  • "Parking is a little tricky. If you can, walk there."
  • "No room to sit inside."
  • "Stay clear on bank holidays or book before you arrive…"

Food Quality

Pros:

  • "The lasagna was delicious!"
  • "The food is good pub grub; tasty, good portions and well presented."
  • "The portion was so good for the money, the food was well cooked and presented, it was piping hot and not cold like some places i've been too."
  • "Food was really good, especially for the prices which are very reasonable."
  • "Delicious food in what feels more like a traditional pub than a gastropub."
  • "The carbonara was delicious!"
  • "Food excellent. We had lambshank with mash and fresh veg and also liver, bacon, onions with mash and fresh veg...delicious."

Cons:

  • "The food wasn't great! They were homemade burgers which is great, but there was no sauce so i was thankful to have the cheese because it was very dry."
  • "When the ploughman's arrived, it was the laziest attempt I've seen - big lumps of cheese, uncut fruit and vegetables, and slightly burnt baguette."
  • "Food looked good but a bit expensive for what it was."
  • "Only slight niggles were the fish pie was largely salmon and didn't seem to be any smoked haddock and lacked sauce."
  • "Caeser chicken & bacon salad freezing cold, tasteless and bacon very fatty."
  • "The 'vegan burger' was a generic patty served in a dry bun (literally just the patty in a dry bun)."
  • "Food not great, had a burnt salmon en croute - so salmon very dry and cheap nasty oven chips several of which had black lumps in them."
