Booking and Seating Experience

Pros:

  • "We made a booking in advance as believed it’s a pre-booked suggested place."
  • "Tucked away in the centre of many buildings and accessible by just one small door, it feels like a bit of a find."
  • "The drinks are really good and taste great. If you want to have a custom drink, they can do that too."

Cons:

  • "I had been excited to visit this establishment for a while and was disappointed when my Mum and I were turned away at the door, even when there were bookings available online."
  • "Upon entering the botanist we had waited a considerable amount of time to be attended to, with staff walking past and ignoring us."
  • "A very disappointing experience. We arrived 15 minutes early for an 8:45pm booking on a Saturday evening. Front of House is best described as chaotic, with no one at the front desk."
  • "We were in Bath for the weekend, but unfortunately we didn't have a good experience. On arrival the restaurant & bar was fairly empty (5pm)."
  • "Booked two tables one month in advanced. One for drinks and another for food. Our drinks table did not have enough seating."

Atmosphere and Decor

Pros:

  • "The atmosphere is incredible. There is a pronounced regency feel, combined with the pleasant lighting interspersed between trees and plants dotted around the octagonal eating and drinking space."
  • "I had an impromptu booking at The Botanist in Bath for my last night, and it exceeded expectations. The lush decor and botanical ambiance, especially the fake tree in the bar, added a unique charm to the old chapel setting."
  • "It’s a beautiful hidden location with 2 levels. From the balcony, it’s looks fabulous with a great view of the circular bar area and a tree sprouting out of the middle."
  • "Nice restaurant inside with the smallest restaurant door I have ever seen."
  • "Incredible venue to go to, one of the nicest bars in bath, they have fantastic cocktails I would highly recommend."

Cons:

  • "Lovely inside I loved the flowery theme but the toilets were a massive trek with multiple stairs and my husband really struggled with them as he has a knee injury."
  • "They were also freezing- not sure why all the windows were open in -2 weather?"
  • "Really nice big place, food was good. Would definitely go back, lots of photo opportunities. Toilets are up about 20 flights of stairs though 😳 which is a pain."
  • "There was no one to greet us as we arrived. We waited a good five minutes and then my husband walked into the bar to get someone’s attention, we were shown to a table upstairs right by the passageway that wasn’t set and told to sit there."
  • "Arrived and was directed upstairs by a surly and bored female receptionist who could not raise a smile."

Service Quality

Pros:

  • "Service was helpful, friendly and professional. Our waiter Luca was super busy, but was still able to make us feel looked after."
  • "The experience luckily improved as our waiter was terrific and the food/drinks were lovely."
  • "Every cocktail our group had was amazing! The staff were clearly knowledgable and enjoyed doing what they do!"
  • "Staff was up and above with our reservation and helping us with birthday cakes. Very friendly and welcoming team."
  • "Amazing building with very cozy and thematic decor. The staff were amazing and very helpful even when things seemed quite busy."

Cons:

  • "The eating area upstairs was lovely but the service wasn't the best."
  • "Food was awesome and the building is really cool. But... showed up for a reservation, no one was at the attendant station."
  • "The service seemed to drop off towards the end of our dinner with one poor girl covering the whole restaurant, I now feel guilty for getting short with her."
  • "Service needs improving- wait staff were disinterested no greeting just “can I take your order” we saw our food waiting on the counter for ages and then when it did arrive the Yorkshire puddings were dry and freezing cold."
  • "One meal didn't arrive. Ordered lemonades and a pint of bitter shandy but the drinks dispenser was faulty and we were given fizzy water and also in the shandy."

Food and Drink Quality

Pros:

  • "Had lovely lunch and cocktails with my family. Beautiful architectures and great service."
  • "Loved my belly pork hanging kebab."
  • "The Sunday roast with the extras to share is a must order, and don’t sleep on their hanging kebabs."
  • "The signature drinks were quirky and delightful, served in a plant pot and a scientific beaker."
  • "We ordered the Halloumi kebab and it was flawless, I could have ate it again."

Cons:

  • "However, the service took quite long and two out of the three people that were at the dinner ended the night with indigestion, bloating, and cramping."
  • "Ordered the speciality of the hanging kebab, and it came out in literally 2 minutes, which made me think it had been precooked."
  • "One of my guests does not drink alcohol and ordered a non alcoholic mocktail. Unfortunately there is an actual cocktail on their menu with the exact same name and he was served the alcoholic version."
  • "Couldn’t fault the service but the breakfast was terrible - I had to send it back, it had clearly been sat under a hot light for a while before it got to me."
  • "Upon looking at the receipt we also found that we were charged twice for service!"
