Trail Quality

Pros:

  • "Perfect trails for families, lots of variety and plenty of parking/outdoor seating and refreshments available."
  • "The cycle park is well maintained with very good trails."
  • "Some good choices of trails to ride with some jumps, flow and root sections."
  • "Simply an awesome venue for mountain bikers with something for everyone."
  • "This is a great set of cycle trails that are well sign posted and maintained. Something for all ages and abilities."
  • "Great mix of MTB trails for all abilities, Cross country to Downhill including a skills park with jump, drop lines and circular routes leading back to the centre."
  • "The Forest of Dean Cycle Centre has a fantastic range of routes from easy to very challenging so it's perfect for all abilities."

Cons:

  • "There seems to be no continuity with labelling. Please look at Swinley or BPw to learn how to trail mark."
  • "I deduct a star because pedalabikeaway could really do with re-investing some of the money they make into the trails rather than coining it in and leaving maintenance to the forestry commission."
  • "The cycle routes in the forest are very badly signposted."
  • "Some of the runs were either erroded or just had large puddles and boggy sections that looked like they hadn't had any maintenance for a while."
  • "Freeminers needed a bit of TLC. Overgrown in places and due to the rain on the previous day, some pretty deep puddles."
  • "Not recommended for the novice rider."
  • "I am sure there are some great trails at this centre but at the limited time we had we could not find them."

Facilities & Services

Pros:

  • "Great for kids as the pump track and skills area are next to each other."
  • "Shop looked good and well kitted out, there's a rental too and bike repair place."
  • "Easy to hire or bring your own bike with the hire hut located at the start of the trails."
  • "The small cafe has always offered an honest cup of tea, cake or simple lunch if you need it with plenty of outdoor seating."
  • "On site cafe, workshop, toilets, showers and bike wash."
  • "Great facilities as well. Clean toilets, bike cleaning, showers, cafe, uplift if you want (book separately) definitely be back."
  • "Facilities are great, good shop, cafe, workshop and wash down point. Toilets and showers are clean and well maintained."

Cons:

  • "The only let down is the on-site Cafe is a total rip off."
  • "Cycle centre shop was OK but a very small range of products and spares, surprised considering the footfall of the place."
  • "Was a super hot day when I rode, the cafe was closed and all the taps were switched off."
  • "The cafe is great, but you can often be in a very long queue on the weekend."
  • "The only let down is the on-site Cafe is a total rip off, and the so called healthy food is deep fat fried."
  • "Very expensive, poor food and poor service - £9.95 for a small double burger with half the contents missing and £2.50 for cold chips."
  • "I had to wait 45 mins for chips as there was no real management direction."

Parking & Accessibility

Pros:

  • "£8 to park in the carpark all day and thats it, your good to go."
  • "Car parking was easy to park, pricing relative cheap, considering the trails were free."
  • "Plenty of parking at £3.50 for the day."
  • "Parking isn't cheap but the money goes back into the Forest so I don't mind."
  • "Parking is cheap and that's all you'll pay for to ride there."
  • "Lots of parking, in marked bays, on tarmac for £7 all day."
  • "Parking can be a nightmare when it's busy."

Cons:

  • "Parking a bit small for busy days but hey, no one's perfect!"
  • "Parking not cheap though, basically £2 for each 2 hours."
  • "Car park can get busy though so make sure you get there early enough on a weekend."
  • "£7 to park over 4 hrs is way overpriced."
  • "Parking charges are a bit high."
  • "First of all the day parking ticket is £7 which is pretty ridiculous in this day and age, also the machines do not take notes."
  • "Can get very busy in the car park on a nice day."
