Food Quality

Pros:

  • "Nice food, had scallops from the Specials board as a starter which were perfectly cooked and the mussels were also delicious."
  • "We had two of the prawn and monkfish skewers which were out of this world!! Really well seasoned and cooked."
  • "Delicious meal and great service! The food was as good as any I've had in Madeira."
  • "The prawns were well balanced with butter and garlic, so the garlic was robust and not overpowering."
  • "I enjoyed fresh seafood with rice even though the rice was a bit undercooked."
  • "The food was stunning, we didn't wait long in between courses, plus the cocktails were amazing."
  • "Really enjoyed the lunch there with my husband. Reasonable price and good portions of fresh ingredients, especially the seafood."
  • "My wife and I decided to visit to try out the £14.95 lunch menu (starter and main course from a set menu) and are really glad we did!"

Cons:

  • "I was a little underwhelmed by the swordfish as felt it was slightly overcooked but my partner loved his skewer."
  • "Didn’t find the hanging chicken kebabs particularly flavoursome however and they were a little over-cooked for my liking."
  • "Unfortunately a negative experience. Slow service. Asked multiple times for knife and forks with meals."
  • "The restaurant is a bit overpriced. The kebab (pork & lamb) was chewy."
  • "Food is not that great. We ordered hake fish and salmon. On the menu it says they cooked with garlic and white wine and so on but did not taste any seasoning."
  • "My chicken and pork was overcooked and dry. Most other things were fine."
  • "I visited this place twice. First time was great. I enjoyed fresh seafood with rice even though the rice was a bit undercooked."
  • "Although the food was good, all seemed a bit rushed. Would try again to a second chance as my friends recommend it strongly."

Service

Pros:

  • "The waiting staff were excellent."
  • "Very friendly and attentive staff, quick service and extremely tasty food."
  • "The waiting staff where all very friendly and laughing and joking with the customers all the time."
  • "The service was a tad on the slow side when we arrived but it was incredibly busy. But they were amazing and attentive."
  • "Staff were very friendly, but it was graduation day so they seemed overwhelmed by the numbers of people so had little time for individual tables."
  • "The staff are very friendly and enthusiastic. They make you feel comfortable and they are so funny."
  • "A lovely restaurant I have been coming here for years, the staff are friendly, the food is delicious with good portions and is tasty."
  • "Very friendly staff. Always smiling and willing to help. The food was outstanding."

Cons:

  • "Slow service. Asked multiple times for knife and forks with meals. No bread with soup unless asked for (multiple times) felt as if it was a burden to ask for these basic things."
  • "It might become your favourite Portuguese Restaurant in Cardiff, but not with its service."
  • "Provided feedback regarding the food and service as they kind of forgotten about us when there."
  • "I've been here several times for business lunches. This last visit was not so good. We were put on a small table near the entrance which we thought was because they were busy."
  • "The service was very slow, waiting 30-40 minutes for food, then 20 minutes for someone to give us the bill."
  • "They let us down. They made us pay for a drink that we didn’t want even after we told them that we didn’t ask for it."
  • "No one offered us dessert or the bill. After being sat down for nearly 3 hours we decided to pay at the bar."
  • "Good tasting food but well over priced for what you get the portions are shocking, since they moved the price has increased but portions sizes have gone smaller."

Ambiance and Atmosphere

Pros:

  • "Lovely spacious and clean restaurant service the best Portuguese choice around."
  • "The time spent in this location was the best time spent in a restaurant in my short trip in Wales."
  • "It's a very friendly atmosphere."
  • "Ambience gets more romantic and magnificent the deeper you go into the restaurant."
  • "The size of the restaurant is impressive. It would be perfect for large groups, especially if you want to celebrate something."
  • "The atmosphere was nice, a little restaurant with friendly staff and some great whiskey."
  • "The restaurant itself goes far back and so can accommodate large groups, although it is always busy so make sure to book ahead!"
  • "Great place . Been here a couple of times and never disappointed."

Cons:

  • "Unfortunately a negative experience. Slow service."
  • "The main issue for me was the lack of staff, getting drinks took ages. We eventually gave up and left."
  • "My family did enjoy their food, but I've had better at other places. More like a pub than restaurant. Well noisy and boisterous."
  • "The only drawback was that there was nowhere to hang our coats. We had to drape our coats over our chairs."
  • "After going to the restaurant for 11-12 years, sadly we will not be going back as I believe you can get more for your money elsewhere."
  • "Not cheap but very good. Probably the best restaurant in town. Never had a duff meal and have been there several times."
  • "Very dark and claustrophobic due to no windows!"
  • "I enjoyed the atmosphere and my meal but yes there is a but. Why isn't bread included with the soup garlic mushrooms first time ever not roll or slice of bread with these dishes and no pea's without paying Extra."
