  • "Service is always impeccable."
  • "They greet you with a smile, they are friendly and nothing is too much trouble."
  • "The staff were charming, couldn't do enough for you, even with our young Vegan."
  • "Staff are great; super friendly and knowledgable."
  • "Great service and a cosy atmosphere!"

Cons:

  • "Service could have been quicker, but it was their first day open so hopefully the machine will be operating smoothly in future."
  • "Could do with another server at lunch as they only had one and she couldn't really keep up with food and drink orders."
  • "Today the service was slow and the blond manager (?) was particularly hostile."
  • "We booked for 12:30 but didn't get the first bit of food until after 13:00."
  • "And what was even more disappointing the guy on a desk just said sorry and didn’t try to arrange something for us or anything."
  • "They have posted wrong opening times. Meals are only lunch and dinner time and additionally you have to book in advance."
  • "So just bare in mind and double check your booking because their system does not work always properly as you can see."

Food Quality

Pros:

  • "The food was excellent quality and was perfectly cooked."
  • "The menu itself was a real celebration of British summertime veggies, huge compliments to the chef(s) that put together this menu, it was delicious!"
  • "Delicious food made with mostly Riverford's own grown fresh veg and fruit."
  • "The food, earthy, delicious, clean and perfectly cooked."
  • "Included 4 starters to share, a mains each and a dessert each so very good value."
  • "Delicious food and drinks."
  • "The food was absolutely delicious and I can't wait to visit again!."

Cons:

  • "the puddings, were disappointing."
  • "But often the main for the vegetarians feels like an afterthought with little imagination."
  • "All starters were vegetarian and mostly cold/uncooked dishes, enjoyed some of the flavours but portions were relatively modest."
  • "I just feel the dishes lacked more fresh herbs and spices."
  • "The only reason I haven't given 5 stars was due to several items served being lukewarm."
  • "The vegetarian pizza mains were impenetrable with an indifferent topping so our two vegetarians were unable to eat the bases."
  • "It was said on the menu to be a spicy fish stew, but it was bland, and the fish was overcooked."

Atmosphere & Setting

Pros:

  • "Truly unique dining experience in an incredible setting."
  • "We sat outside and enjoyed being surrounded by nature."
  • "The room is spacious and bright, with an outdoor courtyard for kids to run around outside."
  • "Very interesting experience, that centres around great food sourced locally, even ground on the farm."
  • "The field kitchen is a wonderful place to have dinner."
  • "Fabulous place to go near Buckfastleigh with the most amazing dishes with flavours I have never tastes before. Lovely layout and fab prices."
  • "The atmosphere and surroundings have been very well thought-out."

Cons:

  • "We sat outside which was quite cold and blankets had run out (a cold july!), heat lamps would be good."
  • "It was a bit cold, especially when doors left open to serve outside."
  • "The only downer was it was so so difficult to find!"
  • "Difficult to find since it is lost in the web of single track roads."
  • "It’s all very sloshy and a bit like the Ryanair of restaurants."
  • "The only downside was the Chicory dish. There's nothing you can do to make this a pleasure to eat."
  • "The other problem is that the diner has no control where he sits, or the order in which he is served."

Value

Pros:

  • "Very fair price for the quality of the food and the atmosphere."
  • "Leave room for the incredible desserts. Great value for money too."
  • "Included 4 starters to share, a mains each and a dessert each so very good value."
  • "Given the quality and quantity of food, it's really good value."
  • "Also great value for money; the food is organic, and every mouthful is appreciated because it is grown with love and thought for the planet."
  • "Great value too."
  • "Exceptional value for money also."

Cons:

  • "Although a tad on the expensive side I personally thought it was worth every penny."
  • "Nice food and lovely venue. Not sure it's describe it as six courses though, several of those 'courses' were nothing more than a side dish or part of a stretched out stater, therefore over priced for me."
  • "Altogther with wine the cost is not far from £50/head."
  • "Given the above price of £52 per head was a bit steep considering we only had one bottle of wine between 6 people."
  • "If you think it's expensive then you've totally missed the point. This is not Fast food cafe. This is a slow food experience."
  • "All the food was delicious and at £30 a very good price."
  • "We ate with you last night, we have eaten with lots of times before, sadly last nights meal was disappointing, half a small slice of sour dough, tiny portion of meat no potatoes or sticky toffee pudding."
