Food Quality

Pros:

  • "Their best dish is the steak pie or chicken pie eaten next to the roaring fire on a cold enters day."
  • "The food was good- a lovely fish and chips and pizza."
  • "The meat was delicious, as was the yorkshire pudding and gravy."
  • "The fish and chips were excellently cooked, with light crispy batter and soft flaky fish."
  • "I had a beautiful Ploughman's with a side order of chips or what I prefer to call heaven in chip form."
  • "The food was great - fresh mackerel and well-looked-after very - the cellar is well-kept as well, with decent local sale on tap."
  • "Food was absolutely delightful!"

Cons:

  • "What a shocking experience Food was of just above average quality and much over priced."
  • "The food is overpriced and not that great a standard. Pretty much like eating at Wetherspoons but at 3x the price."
  • "Food is ok but nothing special."
  • "Whilst it was good that the cost of my fish and chips meal was refunded because I was unable to eat it as it was well overcooked it would have been better that the meal was never served."
  • "However the vegetables were very hard and the roast potatoes, although tasty, were extremely small."
  • "Premium prices but food that doesn't match. The roast was stingy for the £14 price tag."
  • "Lovely atmosphere, shame about the food. Had a Sunday roast which was Luke warm."

Service

Pros:

  • "Staff superb, it was busy. Plus we did not have to wait long at all."
  • "The waiter was attentive, polite and friendly."
  • "Always go to old lnn for a lovely meal in a lovely garden, food delicious and staff very welcoming and nothing is too much trouble."
  • "The staff were all extremely friendly and inviting."
  • "Excellent service and friendly staff."
  • "The staff were very friendly and welcoming."
  • "Staff were attentive and efficient."

Cons:

  • "Waitress took it away and came back with another meal. Chicken half size, spoon full pulled pork and no cheese topping. Asked to see someone in charge no one came."
  • "Waited 20 mins and asked pleasantly about time period for service to be met with a surly response."
  • "Service extremely poor and if it was my pub they wouldn't have a job!"
  • "Hate is a bit strong not impressed with bar closing at 8 not major problem if staff had informed us before closed menu and food not that impressive staff bar one didn't look as if wanted to be there no smiles."
  • "The service was friendly and helpful but communications between front of house and the kitchen need improvement."
  • "Training required for lack of knowledge surrounding allergies, which if not highlighted by myself would have caused a serious problem."
  • "The staff didn't seem interested in much, they offered us a dessert menu but then didn't come back to check if we wanted anything so we paid up and left - we certainly won't be back anytime soon."

Ambience

Pros:

  • "The building itself is a lovely place to be and well worth a visit for a pint, even if you're not eating."
  • "Firstly- inside is wonderful. Lots of stone and a very 'ye olde worlde' feel."
  • "Charming rustic pub that compliments its natural surroundings, lush open homely fireplaces but also natural light in a traditionally dark pub."
  • "This is a fabulous pub, esp if you're an animal lover!!"
  • "A lovely pub in a lovely village on Dartmoor. It had a very nice atmosphere and friendly staff."
  • "The atmosphere is always welcoming, warm and friendly."
  • "The atmosphere inside and out is gorgeous and quaint, and the whole area is filled with history."

Cons:

  • "Lovely location, but very hot weather impacted the experience. More ventilation or air conditioning is needed in the conservatory area."
  • "It did feel a bit like God's waiting room apart from the staff I was the youngest."
  • "It definitely didn't feel like a cosy place which was surprising given its location in the centre of the moors."
  • "The staff spoke the bare minimum required, there were no cheery comments, no smiles, no 'hello' or 'goodbye', no communication at all."
  • "It's ok. It's been extended and messed about with over the years and it's a bit higgledy piggeldy."
  • "The pub itself is of two halves. The original part is lovely, very quaint and the other new edition less so."
  • "It was fine but pretty noisy."

Value

Pros:

  • "The food is very fairly priced however some of the specials can be a little expensive but when you consider how much you get it is worth it."
  • "The price was the same as the last time we had purchased it."
  • "Both reasonably priced."
  • "Good value too."
  • "Very friendly staff, portion sizes are spot on and the price amenable to the location."
  • "Great friendly staff who have everything well organised."
  • "Some of the best food we’ve had in Devon and the staff is very friendly!"

Cons:

  • "Food was OK but considering we were there in a 'family restaurant' with a lady in her late 80's and a 13 year old we felt that the continual shouting, effing & jeffing from a bunch of drunk people could and should have been dealt with by the landlord or staff - it completely ruined the night."
  • "Felt the food was overpriced."
  • "Nice enough pub, but you can definitely tell it's a chain pub."
  • "Plenty of parking behind the pub, but you might have to pay if the pub carpark is full."
  • "Only issue for me was a few items had been crossed off the menu, and the menu we were handed was different to what I found online."
  • "Overall experience Food very good but Service extremely poor."
  • "Best is that they have a Doggie Ice-cream parlour so your furry friend can enjoy a special treat with you too."
