Park Facilities

Pros:

  • "Large park with plenty of walks, picnic areas, places to sit and relax, children's play area, parking, Captain Cook museum within the park which has toilets, cafe and a shop."
  • "A cafe and it's own little zoo in the park. Definitely worth a visit. Car parking free."
  • "All parks should be this nice and clean, no dog mess or litter, FREE to park so you spend your money with small business."
  • "The park has two ponds a good play area for children and houses the James Cook Birthplace Museum."
  • "Great Park space, lots of green open areas with really good facilities."
  • "Best park in Middlesbrough. Great walks, top playground, plenty of parking, half decent cafe options, plenty of grass for play, lots of ducks and swans, a good museum, easily accessible, some farm animals to check out, regular events and fairs on, well maintained... lots to do!"

Cons:

  • "Visited for the ticketed Nightfall event... it was disappointing that one of the events was closing up as we got to enter."
  • "A good walking around park when no events on and has a reasonable play area for children, but some of the equipment has been broken or not maintained for ages."
  • "The play area could have done with a bit of a clean but can't expect much since it is the middle of a UK winter."
  • "The ponds at the top behind the museum could do with a good dredge/clean out."
  • "The animal section is a bit tired and the playpark could do with an update."
  • "Some of the items in the play park were out of order and barriered off and the same for some of the outdoor work out equipment, also out of order."
  • "Children's play area was absolutely covered in litter (Sunday 8am) and we actually felt really bad for the one man having to pick everything up."

Accessibility & Cleanliness

Pros:

  • "Also a Disabled Car Park & Disabled Access."
  • "Paths good for buggies, bikes, wheelchairs etc."
  • "A peaceful and leisurely day out for all with good wheelchair access."
  • "With wide paths, beautiful trees and ducks and swans wading about it neatly placed lakes, stewart park is indeed one of the highlights of living in middlesbrough."
  • "The paths are excellent and buggy friendly as are the cafés and museum to Captain James Cook."
  • "Recently updated and well maintained park."
  • "One of the best parks around Middlesbrough town limits. Ample space, free parking and free entrance."

Cons:

  • "Biggest negative for me is the amount of dogs off the lead with a poor recall."
  • "The only down side, dogs. Some people walk their animals and don't clean up, after them."
  • "The park is neat and tidy, however spoilt by the animal enclosures being overgrown."
  • "Disappointed at the amount of dog muck in and around the wooded area near the car park."
  • "I am very disappointed though that they allow a burgervan to park across 2 disabled spaces."
  • "It used to be one of my absolute fav places to go but now, it has became a broken, littered, low maintenance place where ALOT of the park swings, trampoline, swings, etc., are broken."
  • "Unlucky you cannot buy it all the time, only when cafe or museum is open."

Events & Activities

Pros:

  • "Visited for the ticketed Nightfall event, which was an enjoyable and pleasant experiences after the car parking issues were resolved."
  • "August sees the park play host to the Cleveland show."
  • "Weekly park run of 5k is two laps of the park."

  • "In September, the park hosts the fair."

Cons:

  • "The fun fair was a JOKE £3 to go on the slide only allowed 3 goes less then a min."
  • "Turned up to total chaos, party in the park was on, if I'd have known I would have avoided like the plague!"
  • "Because the fair was there we had to pay £12 for the pleasure (not us though) My girls were too small for the rides so we beat a hasty retreat."
  • "The only thing I was disappointed about, was most of the animals aren't there anymore."
  • "The animal enclosure was disappointing as there aren't many animals and they are too far away to see (except for the chickens) so are probably not worth a trip to see them."
  • "The park is great but at 4pm there were no facilities open at all, No cafe toilets. Nothing."
  • "One problem there is only one set of toilets and yes they all wanted to use them we couldn't as they were closed and so were both cafes which are not open every day anyway."
