Location

Pros:

  • "In the heart of Durham a great location to be able to walk by the river hit all the food places and bars."
  • "Would not hesitate to stay again, 5 min walk over small bridge takes you to Walkergate Square with many bars & restaurants."
  • "Location is right on the river, with fantastic views of the city."
  • "Great place to stay for visiting Durham, not too far from the town center, castle, cathedral etc."
  • "The hotel is in an excellent location, not too far from the train station & a short walk into the town centre."
  • "Hotel is perfectly located for walks into the City and along the river."
  • "Great location for central Durham."

Cons:

  • "Looked ropey on approach (down by the river with construction work just before it), but once in the views are good."
  • "Would have expected more for the money £184 per night."
  • "It doesn’t seem that this is a radisson blu hotel and the price not worth it at all for my experience here!"
  • "I did go on bank holiday weekend so it was a bit lively outside which could be heard clearly in the room."
  • "Great location, and a nice hotel. However, it’s 'nice', not excellent. For £270 a night (due to them doubling the rate whenever there’s an event on in Durham) you could stay in a luxury hotel London."
  • "Unless you take the footbridge immediately as you leave the hotel and cross the river, currently the only other way into town is down the road you drive down to get there which includes going through a very dimly lit tunnel."
  • "Major construction works outside currently which is loud if you have the windows open."

Rooms

Pros:

  • "The rooms were spacious, well equipped and comfortable."
  • "The room was well cleaned and restocked, and the breakfast was good."
  • "Mattress and pillows were very comfy, had a lovely night's sleep and heard very little noise."
  • "The rooms are big with everything in them that you need, iron and ironing board, towels and shower gels, refreshments - tea coffees and water bottles."
  • "The room was clean and comfortable and in our case a wonderful view over the river towards the town and sight of the cathedral added to our stay."
  • "The rooms are comfortable and clean with decent decor and in-room facilities."
  • "Rooms clean and large with a multi channel flat screen TV and well furnished."

Cons:

  • "We very quickly requested to be moved from our first room (123) as it seemed to be next to some kind of plant equipment that was making a constant humming noise through the wall."
  • "Room very hot (hardly slept) with no functioning air conditioning."
  • "The rooms are great but there is no way to turn vents off."
  • "The bed was advertised as a 'King double' but was two twin mattresses just lumped together, meaning they kept on splitting."
  • "Room dated and stuffy, marks on carpet, bedding has never seen an iron and wasn't made properly."
  • "The room carpet and sofa was dirty and stained and looked very old."
  • "‘Queen bed’ was 2 single beds attached so you could feel the split down the middle."

  • "The staff we engaged with were friendly and informative."

Cons:

  • "Service evening meal slow took 40 minutes to arrive."
  • "The night meal staff at the restaurant may be the only negative point that may destroy the pleasure of the experience from my point of view."
  • "Other members of staff were rude and made you feel that they didn't want to be there too much trouble to serve a drinks or coffee at the bar!!"
  • "Got some cheeky/clever comment off the man at reception telling me I had no chance, no rooms, and I was 'silly early'."
  • "Also, staff seem to have no clue about basics of hospitality! I have not seen a single smile from any staff, even when I am smiling saying hello, thank you or please."
  • "Very poor customer services contacted them three times totally uninterested."
  • "The manager who was on at breakfast 14/11/21 was very moody."

Facilities

Pros:

  • "Do try the jacuzzi - you will definitely end up dozing off in there for a bit as the water is so hot!"
  • "Had a beautiful meal in the restaurant, excellent service."
  • "Lunch was fabulous, plenty of choice."
  • "Breakfast buffet was a very nice range of food and very tasty."
  • "The hot buffet was excellent. It had vegan, vegetarian, fish and meat wraps and sandwiches, so something for everyone."
  • "The buffet breafast is good and fried eggs, porridge etc are made to order."
  • "Breakfast the next morning was absolutely not to be missed."

Cons:

  • "If you enjoy the ‘little things’ this isn’t the hotel for you."
  • "Weren’t given slippers to walk around the spa in and the floor was not clean."
  • "The massage was amazing, but around the pool and sauna, steam room wasn't that relaxing as it was open to hotel guests and the kids being kids were noisy and running about."
  • "Since this was a Sunday there were no loungers so we didn't get to relax after our treatments."
  • "The changing rooms were grubby and were clearly not being cleaned regularly."
  • "Spa facilities a big let down. Sauna had a musky smell, broken seat, and walls appeared dirty with black marks. Steam room cold, water fountain, no supply of cups."
  • "Floors wet throughout spa."
