Hotel and Room Quality

Pros:

  • "Amazing hotel beautifully decorated with great extra touches."
  • "The room 'aeron belle' was luxurious and so comfortable."
  • "Every part of the hotel is delightful, including our room which had a lovely view over the harbour."
  • "The Aeron Queen room was something else. The view was amazing, the attention to detail exceptional and the hotel in general exceptional."
  • "The rooms are superb, spotlessly clean, tastefully furnished and extremely comfortable."
  • "Our room was inviting, clean, fresh and with beautiful views."
  • "Our beautiful room, overlooking the ocean, was extremely well equipped and no detail was overlooked."

Cons:

  • "I recently had the unfortunate experience of staying at the Harbourmaster Hotel in Aberaeron, and I must say, it was an utter disappointment from start to finish."
  • "The room I was assigned to was far from clean."
  • "The room itself was outdated, with furniture that appeared worn and tired."
  • "Only thing I did find was we were only given plastic cups for our drinks that we took up to our room."
  • "Toilet (room 4) is perilously close to the radiator?!"
  • "If you have kids under 10 then don't bother, you won't be made to feel welcome."
  • "A beautiful place but unfortunately I was made to feel very uncomfortable by the kitchen staff."

Food and Drink

Pros:

  • "Top quality soaps and shampoos etc."
  • "Sea bream was perfectly cooked with the Indian potatoes being an interesting twist."
  • "The food is excellent and worth the money."
  • "Evening meal delicious best steak by a mile."
  • "The dishes were picture perfect but also tasty and filling."
  • "All the food was absolutely delicious coupled with good service."
  • "Boy did they deliver in spades. Awesome salt and pepper squid, crab linguine and a good old fish and chips served perfectly."

Cons:

  • "Overrated on food. Extra £5 for some potatoes to go with a main fish course costing over £20."
  • "The combination of Asian Slaw with Lobster and Thyme butter didn't really work."
  • "Menu was quite pricey for what they were serving so we didn't bother."
  • "I ordered the moules marinier which should come in a white wine/creamy sauce but was just in seawater."
  • "Food was good but not value for money."
  • "Treacle pork from the specials wasn't up to the same standards unfortunately."
  • "The scallops tasted OK but parts were very chewy, almost like chewing gum and therefore not edible."

Service and Staff

Pros:

  • "All staff were pleasant, friendly and helpful."
  • "The staff are cheerful, attentive and very helpful with food and drink selections."
  • "The staff were, without exception, fantastic."

  • "The staff were lovely."

Cons:

  • "When we went to pay the manager was rude and dismissed our constructive criticism."
  • "It took 3 members of staff to even acknowledge we were waiting to be seated."
  • "Very disappointing, third time here in last week and charged 3 different prices for the exact same two drinks on all 3 occasions."
  • "Unfortunately not a great experience, forgotten twice, no one came to take our drinks order and then forgot to bring our drinks."
  • "The customer service was equally disappointing."
  • "Staff members were very rude and to be honest it ruined my birthday meal."
  • "Very disappointed. My wife had eaten here before and found it to serve very good food. Indeed the food was excellent on this visit but the enjoyment was spoilt by the lackadaisical service of the two waitresses."

  • "Lovely location with a perfect view of harbour and sea."

Cons:

  • "The only down side is that the bar is so busy you can get missed if you're not a local."
  • "Four stars because the harbour area seems a little unloved, with only two tatty boats in the actual harbour."
  • "You should be warned that this place can, at times, subdue any attempt of conversation."
  • "There are very few places where you can take a dog on the beach and I'm sorry to say the beach there was disgusting not dirty but not one for walking a dog on."
  • "No lounge area to sit and relax after eating."
  • "Restaurant was totally empty at 5pm but we were not allowed in had to sit outside!"
  • "We didn’t stay, we phoned the hotel at approximately 11am on Saturday, to book a table for 1 pm that day, was told it’s full for the lunch and the evening, we were going to Aberaeron anyway, so we walked down to the hotel, went in and asked if there was room for 2 for lunch, not a problem, there were 4 people behind us that just walked in and they were found a table straight away, so why didn’t they take a booking."
