  • "The brisket was hands down the best I have had in a restaurant."
  • "The food was very good. on the more expensive side at £15 or so for a main but very well cooked."

Cons:

  • "The Yorkshire pudding was as dry and flavourless as cardboard; the meat had been overcooked until it was almost mush."
  • "The meat was fatty, overcooked and all of the veg tasted like it had been reheated."
  • "The meal was disappointing and not cooked as we had asked."
  • "Very disappointed with Sunday lunch."
  • "Sorry to say that the last 2 times I've been the food has not been up to the high standard that they had."
  • "However the food was a little underpar and we then discovered there was a new chef, so not sure if this had anything to do with it."
  • "The food was absolutely awful, one out of four meals on that day was edible, another was not worth eating and the other two were not much better."

Service

Ambience and Facilities

Pros:

  • "Highly recommend booking before as we saw a lot of people turn away due to how popular it is, and rightly so."
  • "Portions were fantastic, atmosphere (and accommodating an extended family of 12!) was really commendable."
  • "Plenty of car parking nearby."
  • "It's a pub with character, a decent range of beers etc and good service."
  • "Really nice cosy and very clean local tavern, would definitely recommend."
  • "The inside was much bigger than it looks, was spotlessly clean and we were greeted and seated within about 60 seconds."
  • "A quaint old building with lots of character, and such a great location."

Cons:

  • "Can get a bit breezy if the wind off the North Sea gusts in while the doors are opened."
  • "The pub is grubby & could do with updating."
  • "Staff not required to wear face masks or social distance."
  • "Only grumble is that it is served on wooded board not a plate."
  • "Initial impression almost put us off, the pub internal windows sills are cluttered which gave a big of a grubby impression."
  • "A constant yapping dog on a near table was excusable. What is not is close by kitchen staff talking loudly about Ukrainian wars, and the state of the country and economy, pot marked with swearing with children at the table."
  • "Whilst the accommodation is centralised it is poor quality and can only say that I feel like Dr Who travelling back in time to my house in the 70's."

Value

Pros:

  • "Pricing is good too for the quality of the meal that you get, was expecting to pay much more!"
  • "Very reasonable price including my glass of wine."
  • "But the room is really cheap, and you can hear the bells in the distance, which is worth the money."
  • "The food was very hot, well presented and pretty quick considering it was very busy."
  • "Prices reasonable as well fully recommended."
  • "Good prices."
  • "Homely and comfortable."

Cons:

  • "£100 with tip. Friday night, all tables taken in restaurant, bar area also available."
  • "We had spend up till then around £300 that was including our room for 3 nights."
  • "A local guy I spoke to said that it's an expensive place compared to years ago."
  • "Over priced and bad service I wouldn't recommend."
  • "£13.95 for a 'sirloin' beef lunch - but it absolutely was not."
  • "The fly in the ointment is that the heating and hot water are very slow to come up, and the room is very cold."
  • "Strap line for 20/21 'I caught Covid at the Market Tavern'."
