Atmosphere and Setting

Pros:

  • "Located right in the midst of the busy area, but indoors is quite calm, so it was a nice break to sit and enjoy lunch."
  • "We bought a itison voucher for us to use after our wedding... The food was amazing and tasty and the service was really good."
  • "These people know the meaning of hospitality. Welcoming and attentive."
  • "Came to a wedding reception here. Staff really attentive and never an empty glass. The food was amazing."
  • "The layout is a bit odd with multiple levels and a multistair trek to try and find a loo, but the staff are friendly and will help with directions."

  • "The restaurant makes me want to stay with the hotel next time we visit!"
  • "Wonderful location on the Royal Mile. Lovely service and good food combined with classy atmosphere."

Cons:

  • "Sitting indoors, upstairs & at the back - whilst paying upmarket prices, left me feeling that it was not good value for money."
  • "Plastic plants on the tables, upside down wine glasses that seem odd and unhygienic, menu full of good ideas that underwhelm or are undetectable in reality."
  • "We were seated outside. After being seated, we waited over 30 mins to get a menu."
  • "Service was lacking with no inquiry into whether we needed anything or more drinks."
  • "The room is nice, well apportioned, and comfortable. We had a view of St. Giles right out the window."
  • "Not cheap (£50 for lunch for 2) but food was delicious! Lovely interiors and atmosphere too."
  • "It's a really nice place with a very classic and quite classy vibe."

  • "The staff are so welcoming and accommodating, the food is unbelievably good and the drinks are truly wonderful."
  • "Staff were so friendly, Cullen Skink the best I ever had, so much fish in it, me and the wife had to split the main course, fish and chips, which was outstanding."
  • "Staff were most accommodating and found my teen son and I a table, even though we had not booked and they were expecting several dining groups that evening."
  • "Thanks to the maitre de for accomodating us on Saturday night, as we were let down by a booked restaurant. The food, staff and maitre de were fantastic."

Cons:

  • "While the food was decent, the behaviour of the staff was disappointing. One server in particular made fun of a customer struggling with the language barrier."
  • "We waited 45 minutes and eventually had to call someone over to take our drinks and food order."
  • "The serving staff are young and friendly but very disorganised."
  • "Food was good, service was good, but it took more than 75 minutes for dinner to be served."
  • "Food was okay, it’s not bad but it’s not wow either and we’re not hurrying to go back for the food."
  • "Family booked for my birthday lunch and I was excited that it would be Scottish Food... Lovely place but the staff need a bit more training on Customer Service."
  • "Staff were nice and the food was fine but they charged me an exorbitant amount for a small carafe of water."
  • "Not great i am sad to say. Bought an itson voucher. No shin of beef pie left on the Menu at 5pm."
