Food Quality

Pros:

  • "Phenomenal burgers, probably the best I’ve had in a traditional pub since I can remember."
  • "The crab nachos and mackerel with potatoes were cooked to perfection."

Cons:

  • "Left feeling ripped off NEVER AGAIN."
  • "Was very disappointing, staff very rude and racist."
  • "As you'd expect, very touristy. I had some food while I was there. I took a Carvery roast dinner and to be honest I wasn't feeling it, it was all very tired and bland."
  • "The food is close to fast food!"
  • "The size of the fish itself was small, much smaller than you would typically expect."
  • "The food was pretty good but unfortunately the bar service spoiled our evening due bad service."
  • "The size of the vegetarian linguine was very stingy."

Atmosphere and Location

Pros:

  • "This is a great pub. Loads of atmosphere, fantastic food."
  • "Everything we wanted from a seaside pub with seaviews from inside and out."
  • "The Ship in Porthleven is lovely, a true old fashioned pub steeped in history. Beautiful location, open fires, great ales and very friendly staff."
  • "Best seat in the house? Right at the very top of the outside area, awesome views and an absolute sun trap."
  • "On a stormy day you can look out the window and see 30ft waves crashing into the mouth of Porthleven Harbour."
  • "Great pub with a great selection of beers, amazing view of the harbour."
  • "With its location, décor and very friendly staff, it oozes atmosphere and as a bonus there are great views of the harbour and out to sea."

Cons:

  • "Cramped and claustrophobic when busy inside."
  • "However, all three of us would not get full... Even our 8-year-old daughter complained after dinner that she was still hungry."
  • "Lovely outside area, spoilt only by smokers, hint... hint...ship in (can some of the outdoor area be smoke-free, please)"
  • "Since you are so happy, you ignore that beer is not cold enough."
  • "Fab location beautiful view over looking the harbour and friendly staff unfortunately that’s all the positives, food is extremely slow and after waiting over a hour for the food it was poor quality."
  • "Gets very busy and very noisy."
  • "Ordered fish and chips and the chips were good but the fish was very greasy and made us feel queasy."

Accessibility and Comfort

Pros:

  • "A cosy pub full of memories and amazing view of the harbour."
  • "Even on a windy, cloudy day, this is a superb vantage point."
  • "A real 'local' pub with a very friendly atmosphere. Lots of original features and a great stepped garden."

Cons:

  • "Would highly recommend BUT up top of stone steps that could be hard to navigate for those with limited mobility."
  • "Very little seating inside. Fabulous history attached though."
  • "As the building is so very old and built into the side of the cliff, it is not at all wheel chair friendly."
  • "There was about an hour wait from ordering and a limited vegetarian option."
  • "Sheltered from sun so can be chilly on cool days."
  • "Can get a bit cramped during busy times. Parking is a bit of an issue as no car park and disabled access is not an option."
  • "The Inn is full of character, so don't expect straight flat steps and large roomy corridors or toilets."
