Golfing Experience

Pros:

  • "To play this course is the biggest experience you can have in golf."
  • "What more can I say about this magical place other than you have to go and the experience will surpass any and all expectations you have."

Cons:

  • "Erm.......what's all the fuss about really. 4 balls back to back to back! Absolute carnage!"
  • "Unfortunately, the golf course is swarmed and devastated by 25-30+ handicap players that ruin the entire experience."
  • "Anticlimax. Paired with three players who didnt break 100. (Who checks hcp?)"
  • "Golf course is nothing special. Has 3 holes the 1st, 17th and 18th that is special rest of course is average."

Course Conditions and Facilities

Pros:

  • "The undulations and some of the bunker sizes are a thing to behold - the best golf experience I've ever had."
  • "The course was in excellent shape. This is for sure a must visit and even a place to return to."
  • "Played April 2022 and the infrastructure was going up for the open so felt more special playing in front of grandstands."
  • "What's not to love? The course was in great shape the day after the Walker Cup."
  • "Great condition with immaculate greens and fairways and every bunker looked to be rebuilt."
  • "Was in Scotland the last week of May and played the Old Course along with Troon, Turnberry Alisa, Carnoustie, and Kingsbarns. This course was a thrill and the most memorable!"
  • "This course is amazing and beautiful and to be honest they could charge a lot more and get away with it."
  • "Great experience played this in a winter package deal with the new course and jubilee course for a £140 each unbelievable value."

Cons:

  • "Awesome experience, fantastic course spoilt only by ridiculously slow greens."
  • "Courses wonderful but can't believe the contractor: Gilmartine I believe are cutting kerbs at the revamped practice area, between the practice range and the first tee of the Eden using a hand held petrol driven saw with no water aspiration."
  • "Having been to this hotel a number of times, I am disgusted that now you are required to pay £40 per person to access the pool area on top of your £350 room charge."

Accessibility and Enjoyment

Pros:

  • "If you love Golf and sandy beaches then the Old Course is the ultimate experience."
  • "It’s was fun to play the course for the pure history of it. Caddies were wonderful. Course is wide and open."
  • "If you even enjoy golf a little you should for sure stop here. They close the olde course on Sundays and you can walk all 18."
  • "No list of stunning golf courses is complete without including the 'home of golf.' Make a tee-time at the Old Course at St. Andrews-the oldest and most legendary golf course in the world."

Cons:

  • "A brilliant experience going to my first major. But that will do the prices would leave you sick. Only thing these vendors are missing is a mask and a gun."
  • "I love the Old Course but like many others find the cost of playing prohibitive."
  • "It's a shame that our national treasures are aimed squarely at the pockets of well off tourists."
