Food Quality

Pros:

  • "TJ's Diner does the classic American experience so well, I thought I was back home! Really, REALLY, just DELICIOUS breakfast!"
  • "The food was good, would recommend if you want to stop by for some breakfast and milkshakes."
  • "All the food was good, the drinks were SO deceiving - we had Oreo milkshakes and when they arrived and were mostly white I thought they’d be super weak… I was SO wrong."
  • "Food was great the younger server was great the older lady tried to humiliate me when I was paying though was slightly unexpected."
  • "I had a simple cheese burger, wow it was amazing, the cheese was not just slapped on top but all melted into the burger so juicy to eat, very nice indeed."
  • "We loved this diner enroute to Oban. The American pancakes were delicious and my friend enjoyed his burger."
  • "Two handmade smashed patty burgers cooked to perfection. We were in a rush and they were just closing amazing service and friendly staff."
  • "This was possibly one of the best patty's I've had in a very long time. Simple, honest, no messing around food."

Cons:

  • "Breakfast was burnt and not fresh. And was told when the food was brought out side to us there was no forks for the food."
  • "The burger was pretty good and you could tell was made from scratch in-house but sadly the fries were completely overdone and were so brittle."
  • "We stopped here for a quick cup of tea and a bacon sandwich, the place was empty but the cafe next door was full. The bacon was burnt black and over salty."
  • "Food hygiene very poor, watched chef drop someone's hash brown on the counter, picked it back up and shoved it back on the plate."
  • "The toastie was supposedly really nice as well (menu maybe a bit limited for them but decent value in this day and age) the coleslaw that came with them was brilliant as well, although the tortilla chips weren't up to much."
  • "The restaurant was virtually empty, our food was served quickly but we were given the wrong orders and only realised once we started eating."
  • "Horrendously overpriced, probibly explains why the place was empty at peak tea time Saturday evening whilst all other food outlets across the road had ques out the door."
  • "The fries wasn't that amazing but overall very good my friend ordered calamari salad which she says was amazing."

Service

Pros:

  • "Service was friendly and pretty quick. Ordered a cheeseburger and fries and a large Pepsi."
  • "Stopped here for a bite to eat for lunch on our road trip to Oban, staff were amazing and super friendly."
  • "Staff were very friendly, very fast service. We got the pancakes and they were really tasty! Cute wee diner stop on the road."
  • "The lady who served us was wonderful. Great burgers, good portions too. Loved the American greasy spoon vibe."
  • "Fantastic wee place. Service was fast, friendly and funny. Food was top notch."
  • "I wouldn't usually leave a review but wanted to acknowledge the service we received today. My daughter and I stopped on our journey from Oban to Suffolk. The lady serving us was lovely - friendly and chatty."
  • "Service was fast and there's plenty of empty tables. Menu has burgers, all day breakfast, toasties and other foods."
  • "Staff were friendly and taking care to create a safe environment however the service approach appeared a bit disjointed, we sat for 20+ mins waiting for an order to be taken and eventually left."

Cons:

  • "Went back for a refund and had to speak to 3 people as they tried there best to embarrasse me and and tell other customers at the till they would definitely not be bringing there food back as it was fantastic."
  • "The only minor- we wished to have some desserts - a cheesecake and pancakes, but nobody came to clean the tables nor offer desserts, so we left."
  • "The next door place got a few higher ratings but was packed and there was literally no wait at TJs. We had a spicy chicken which was fantastic."
  • "We chose the plain hamburger as one of the safe options and it was ok. The dinner theme could use an update as it has items from the 60's though the 2000's. The service took a bit longer than anticipated."
  • "The owners or management of this place should seriously think about investing more in their staff, or paying their existing staff a higher wage."
  • "Two people running that whole restaurant is a joke. Plates piled up on tables as they had no time to clean and serve customers."
  • "Seemed like all food was frozen, no fresh produce. Very low standards, No idea of nutrition or what a modern customer wants."
  • "To be honest, the famous green welly across the road was really busy, as was the real food cafe, , but TJ's next door wasn't ! so we thought this may be a bad sign, well it wasn't, we had a lovely breakfast & coffee, served promptly and hot ! not swimming in grease and friendly helpfull service ! oh the toilets were lovely and clean and well maintained and decorated !( so please keep them that way !) well worth a visit !"

Atmosphere & Decor

Pros:

  • "Great drive up from Loch Lomond to this cool American diner. Food was good well as long as you like americanised food, burgers etc."
  • "A lovely wee American style diner on the roadside great food, and the latte it was lovely the foam at the top of it was think n creamy and took a while to dissolve unlike a lot of other places ive had a latte at, best latte ive had."
  • "We stopped today at TJ's Diner and were very impressed with establishment, had a cheeseburger and must say best I've tasted. Really nice atmosphere the place was spotless, very comfortable and the staff very friendly, will definitely be back soon."

Cons:

  • "The atmosphere is nice, but the volume of the room makes it hard to create ambience."
  • "We stopped here for a quick cup of tea and a bacon sandwich, the place was empty but the cafe next door was full. The decor was OK but the music was over loud, not everyone likes 50s american music blasting away while your trying to enjoy a cuppa."
  • "The dinner theme could use an update as it has items from the 60's though the 2000's."
  • "Maybe I'm showing my age but decor hideous, although it was very clean!"
  • "It's like a cafe in an 80's leisure centre; brutal!"
  • "The food tastes yummy too and the staff are really lovely. We are forever recommending it to friends out a drive."
  • "Nice to find this American Diner in the middle of Scotland. Made a great stop while touring on the bike."
  • "Walked in, walked out. And the PLASTIC, omg have a clue! Serving drinks in plastic with plastic lids and plastic straws? Out of your mind, 2019 and the world is smothered in unnecessary waste and this place wants to ADD to the problem?"

Pricing

Pros:

  • "Very well priced as well, sub £40 for 2 drinks, 2 meals and a side."
  • "The price was very reasonable."
  • "And as a bonus TJ’s way more reasonably priced 😉"
  • "I always come here whenever I’m working in the area. Brilliant place. Unassuming and very reasonably priced with friendly staff, great service and great food."
  • "Superb juicy homemade burgers considering the time we travelled to find somewhere to eat."
  • "The staff were lovely and it was sooo clean, totally recommend 👌"
  • "Great way to start the day before a climb, good value, very tasty and not heavy. Think I've just found a new breakfast spot before heading into the hills."
  • "Cheap and cheerful. I got a cheese and onion toastie with crisps and drink as my meal deal. It was like something I'd make at home, nothing special at all."

Cons:

  • "The food was ok, no complaints. Nothing majorly amazing or disappointing. It was fresh, made to order and served fairly quickly. The kids opted for milkshakes- they were the best! The only minor- everything a bit pricey than one would expect."
  • "Milkshakes are tasty although a bit a small for the price."
  • "Lots of potential here, like proper plates, perhaps a little coleslaw or salad on the side, and you'd have a winning combination in what is a prime location."
  • "Nice place to stop off to grab a drink and a quick bite but very busy and felt it was quite pricey for what we ordered."
  • "Went back for a refund and had to speak to 3 people as they tried there best to embarrasse me and and tell other customers at the till they would definitely not be bringing there food back as it was fantastic."
  • "We stopped here yesterday for a light lunch , there were 2 adults and 1 child and it cost us £54 . Very expensive for poor quality food."
  • "Horrendously overpriced, probibly explains why the place was empty at peak tea time Saturday evening whilst all other food outlets across the road had ques out the door."
  • "Cheap food for £10 per dish (average). Very disappointed. Would not recommend. Seemed like all food was frozen, no fresh produce. Very low standards, No idea of nutrition or what a modern customer wants. Plastic everything, sugar everything."
