Tour Experience

Pros:

  • "Highly recommend to add this distillery on your itinerary if you are in the area."
  • "First class tour full of information and details about the Whiskey process."
  • "Brian from the tour was brilliant, just the right mix of information and humour."
  • "If it is John that takes you round you won't be disappointed, there is nothing he does not know about the distillery from first opening until now!"
  • "We had a lovely tour this morning with Gordon, who was very knowledgeable and enthusiastic."
  • "Tom was a great Tour Guide and super knowledgeable even after all the questions my husband fired at him!!"
  • "The young woman who guided our tour was great and happy to answer questions!"

Cons:

  • "Bad experience, just quickly went in to buy some souvenirs, but the guy behind the counter didn’t even bother to notice us."
  • "When i asked him re particular whiskies he was exceptionally condescending and spoke down to me as though I had no clue about whisky."
  • "Really poor service levels."
  • "2nd visit and will be my last. No tours available which is fair enough."
  • "Overall a very poor showing, I sincerely hope this was just a blip, but I suspect from the manner of the staff and condition of the facilities a poor experience is a common encounter."
  • "Problems aside, it’s a very light touch tour and there are actually far better whiskies and tours in the highlands."
  • "Tour is unfortunately pretty limited and basic."

Tasting Experience

Pros:

  • "I was poured a 10 year old single malt which was really nice."
  • "Very generous with the tasters!"
  • "The tasting was very exciting. We learned a lot about flavours and how adding water can change the taste."
  • "The tasting was fun as well and they give you a chance to try pretty much everything."
  • "The bartender was very knowledgeable about the Whiskies, and offered us generous free samples of the entire lineup."
  • "We tasted 2 whiskies and it was really great after the tour to differentiate between different whiskies."
  • "The tasting is generous and interesting."

Cons:

  • "Went for tasting experience- told the girl we knew nothing about whiskey and we were there to try a few. She just gave us a menu without any guidance."
  • "If the whisky was worth drinking I might make another trip after all is only 400 miles but, nah!"
  • "One sample of whisky at the end of the tour, less than a tea spoon. Average at best."
  • "The whisky was generally quite average but that didn't detract from the excellent experience."
  • "Would not recommend the upgraded tours with 4 or 6 tasters as the whiskey is not that great."
  • "I'd review the whisky quality and the distillery more of a 2-star. Whisky is cheap and bland, and the distillery feels incredibly dated."
  • "No whisky available to buy at end of tour due to outsourced bottling problem (bar shelves were completely empty)."

Staff and Service

Pros:

  • "Lovely friendly staff and look forward to next visit in the spring."
  • "Extremely friendly."

  • "The man on the gate was cheerful and full of banter and very welcoming."
  • "Both members of staff who were working today were extremely pleasant & made me and my partner feel very welcome!"
  • "The entire staff was very friendly and answered all questions."

Cons:

  • "This place is a disaster."
  • "Nobody cares. Really bad experience."
  • "The visitor centre is dated, and staff were too busy chatting amongst themselves."
  • "The staff at the visitors centre (an elder gentleman and a younger lady) seemed uninterested and not very keen on providing a welcoming experience to their customers."
  • "Staff was really grumpy and mean."
  • "No real sense of pride for a first impression and appears understaffed."
  • "Gentleman who greeted us at reception wasn’t particularly friendly or accommodating."

Facilities and Amenities

Pros:

  • "They have a very small cafe which serves some basic stuff to eat like sandwich soup and tasty lemon loaf."
  • "Nice place with wonderful scenery. Don't forget to see the Hielan' Coos outside. :)"

  • "The drinks and toasties from the canteen are lovely and made fresh."
  • "There is also a little cafe here so you can get lunch and tea and coffee which is great."
  • "The visitor center is lovely, with a nice bar, a small café, and delightful employees."
  • "Nice cafe and bar."

Cons:

  • "Plus the place feels a bit rough around the edges."
  • "Unfortunately it's very dated and the cakes we had weren't anything to write home about."
  • "Cafe closed bearing in mind it's half eleven. No gift shop."
  • "The visitors centre was just one room which appeared to double as the staff canteen (it did smell pretty good), the shop was a couple of glass cabinets with no real explanation if this was a shop or not."
  • "The whole place, including the cafe counter was covered in dirty washing up."
  • "We popped in just to go to the shop as we had done the tour last time we were in Scotland. It was 4 pm, we were told it was closed."
  • "They have production break in July which wasn't mentioned on the website."
