Accommodation

Pros:

  • "Our room was lovely."
  • "The renovation was excellent and there were plenty of convenient power plugs for my electronics through the room."
  • "The accommodation was outstanding and offered you everything you needed and more."
  • "The rooms and bathrooms are a little tired, but it is an old building and the overall character speaks for itself."
  • "Room was marvellously comfortable."
  • "The suite had a large bedroom, separate lounge area and a bathroom - the bath certainly had a great view over the loch."
  • "The room was large and beautiful with fantastic views of the loch from both the main room and the separate sitting room."

Cons:

  • "In my opinion they are taking advantage of a unique property without keeping it up to a five star standard."
  • "The bedroom and bathroom was much smaller than the premium double we had stayed in the nights prior."
  • "The only downside were the scones which unfortunately were too dry and the dough was too dense."
  • "Unacceptable room offered as 'luxury' with no visual privacy (ground floor between the main entrance and car park with people walking in front of the only window) and no sound privacy (we could hear people talking and loudly pacing the ground above us)."
  • "The suite (room 23) was very poor - tucked away at the end of a corridor next to the treatment room, no charm at all of the main building."
  • "The lounge area in the room was small and dark with a tiny television."
  • "The mattress was uncomfortable, the bed box showed a lot of wear and tear, and the bathroom ceiling was a patchwork of patches."

Staff and Service

Pros:

  • "We were made to feel so welcome and comfortable."
  • "The staff was lovely and very attentive."
  • "Staff are friendly and very accommodating."
  • "Staff exceptionally friendly and accommodating."

  • "Staff was excellent and attentive."

Cons:

  • "Staff seemed a little unfriendly to Americans at least that was the perception we had."
  • "The service was sometimes unsafe and failed to convince."
  • "Staff disorganised, wine flights arriving after courses at tables and food just not impressive."
  • "Manager was unapologetic and rude in their communication."
  • "Service was haphazard and we weren’t even offered coffee."
  • "However the food was such a disappointment...it is basically a rip off."
  • "Unfortunately the attention to detail was not up to standard."

Food and Dining

Pros:

  • "The menu is great - local and regional themed dishes, with proper portions that taste great."
  • "Locally sourced food prepared with care, imagination and passion and presented with exquisite attention to detail."
  • "The venison tartare on the second evening but all the food was tremendous."

  • "The food was of the highest calibre."

Cons:

  • "The corn soup appetizer was bland and unimaginative."
  • "Food at its best was above average. Fish was awful."
  • "We selected the 5-course menu for dinner and while it was interesting, it lacked any kind of bold flavor or ingenuity."
  • "My wife ordered a chocolate brownie that was so dry it was mostly inedible."
  • "Food was not even average which was a big disappointment as it is famed for it's food."
  • "My breakfast smoked salmon dish was way too salty and the monk fish wasn't done well either."
  • "We both ordered Halibut on our first night which was severely overcooked."
