Food Quality

Pros:

  • "The food was really good! We had the fish & chips and the mussels, both really lovely."
  • "The stake pie for main was also huge. The pie was really good and fresh. The meat was tender."
  • "For starters, we had the haggis bhaji... this is by far the best haggis that I have had."
  • "Best fish and chips anywhere. So thrilled to have tried it."
  • "The Cullen Skink was creamy and delicious with good flavors and ample smoked haddock flavor."
  • "I've been dreaming of the Warrior burger from MacGregor's since we left a week ago... it was by far the best meal I had while in Scotland."
  • "The haddock and chips was stellar. Creamy flakes of fish in a hot puff of batter."
  • "The food is absolutely beautiful. Fresh and tasty."

Cons:

  • "The food we ordered was tasty...service was fast...but there were patrons who shared their large table since they were a group of only 2."
  • "Service was very slow but the menu looked good. Ordered the Steak Pie... The steak was extremely salty."
  • "So many delicious gluten free options! They were so kind catering to celiacs and went out of their way to get really good GF bread."
  • "Nothing special and so I was disappointed. I had the scallops which were fine but little imagination as nothing really with it."
  • "Good pub, burgers looked good in photos but we're not good at all."
  • "Food average and quite a number of items on the menu weren’t available. Food and drinks overpriced compared with other venues in the area."
  • "The burger was just like a ball of mince, onion ring was stodgy n too heavy, chips tasted like they had been lying for a while."
  • "Possibly one of the worst meals - Ever- When we brought it up to the manager his reply was 'We get great reviews on our Burgers'."

Service Quality

Pros:

  • "The service was also very nice, we asked for some local whisky’s and they gave us good ones and decently priced."
  • "Great atmosphere, very kind and helpful team."
  • "Our favorite bar that we went to in Scotland. Shelly, Mia and Frazier were excellent."
  • "The staff was above and beyond. Destiny, you were fantastic! Our favorite server in Scotland!"
  • "Great experience, friendly staff. Do all your business of ordering food and drink at the bar, pay while your there and have a seat with your drinks."
  • "Whiskies are top notch, amazing selection and super knowledgeable staff."
  • "The staff are very knowledgable and helpful."
  • "Very delicious food, fresh and flavourful."

Cons:

  • "My only critique is on the service. It was good! But it wasn’t excellent."
  • "Service was fantastic, friendly, and prompt. The MacGregor’s Mussels were divine and would 100% recommend."
  • "Made a reservation requesting a view of the rugby game. When we arrived we waited while we gave the table with the view of the game away and escorted us to a side room."
  • "Heard good reports so thought I'd give it a try. Service was very slow."
  • "The food is good, the music makes for a great atmosphere, but the poor service really ruins the visit."
  • "45 minutes wait time for 2 MacGregor signature burgers, haddock soup and goat cheese salad. Burgers and chunky chips arrived cold."
  • "Staff are not present at all, they seem to avoid taking orders and getting drinks, ironic for a pub."
  • "Service was good at the start. Food arrived and staff were asking how food was before had started eating. Food was average."

Atmosphere and Ambiance

Pros:

  • "Very nice pub close to the Inverness rail and bus stations. No hubris whatsoever in accepting customers, even when busy, so great reception."
  • "Great atmosphere, very kind and helpful team."
  • "They had live music with a good atmosphere."
  • "There is also a very broad range of dishes, which is surprising for a pub, plus there is live music almost every evening if that is what interest you."
  • "Our favorite bar that we went to in Scotland. We sampled most of the menu and our favorites were the mussels and chicken wings."
  • "A gem. Craft beers, whisky connoisseurship and fantastic food."
  • "Friendly bar with a mixed crowd (tourists/locals and varied ages) band playing traditional music and a cosy log burning stove."
  • "The place was crowded, but we got a table after not too long. They had like music, but it wasn't too loud, so you could actually talk to the people next to you."

Cons:

  • "Place was packed, but we managed to get a table."
  • "Such mixed emotions here. Atmosphere was lively and high spirited, but in order to sit in the main room with the bar, be prepared because the music was very loud, and the fire made the room almost too hot to stay in."
  • "We went from Edinburgh airport directly to the restaurant to celebrate my daughter's birthday. We only need 15 minutes to dive into the highland atmosphere with their live music, beautiful decoration, tasty food, and the best attention of staff."
  • "We went for dinner. Steak somehow melted in my mouth! In house made sticky toffee pudding with such a smooth flavour and texture! Absolutely delicious! Service was amazing too."
  • "We always enjoy visiting this wonderful bar/restaurant. We enjoy the wonderful highland food, the great informal music sessions and the excellent service."
  • "Food was subpar. I ordered the Chicken Ballotine, but it had ran out so they served roast chicken instead. Unfortunately, the food was cold & the chicken undercooked."
  • "The atmosphere and service was sub par compared to the other places I ended up eating/drinking at."
  • "Unbelievably bad service. Waited 30 mins before someone came to take our order (wasn't even half full)."
