Beer Selection

Pros:

  • "Great selection of really interesting beers and knowledgeable staff."
  • "They go in for mostly local beers, and all of them I tried were excellent."
  • "Great selection of draught beers (including my London favourite Beavertown)."
  • "Dean Swift has over 20 beers so chances are you’ll find something you enjoy."
  • "A great craft beer bar, lots of selection from many great breweries, Tiny Rebel, Beavertown, Brew By Numbers, and the like."
  • "These guys have a great beer selection including some Belgian stuff, and they know their stuff."
  • "At the bar you get a wide range of local beers, including ales and pilsner."

Cons:

  • "Bit pricey for a black country bloke but the beer was good."
  • "The only downside was my first drink of Cloudwater IPA tasted like sour yoghurt, and the glass on the second pint of Anspach was filthy."
  • "Could have done with at least one more cask though. Two was a bit limited for me."
  • "Only one cask beer on tap available when I visited but 16 craft keg beers and ciders."
  • "Lots of beers and ciders to choose from, none of them particularly outstanding however."
  • "Actually closes at 11 pm and not at midnight, only two of four cask ales were available, the kitchen closed at 9:30 and was already shut at 9:32 and no snacks except for crisps are available."
  • "Unfortunately they had run out of the steak baguette."

Food Quality

Pros:

  • "The quality of the food was amazing and the guys were right in all their recommendations."
  • "Excellent Sunday Roast! Two of us had the rolled lamb shoulder and I had the beef. Both dishes were excellent."
  • "Beautifully prepared beef, delicious jus, and crisp veggies."
  • "Fish and chips was great and the tartar sauce was definitely home-made."
  • "The food was great, everyone enjoyed their meal which was warm & plentiful."
  • "Food was excellent, recommend the beef on a Sunday."
  • "Food is good, with a range of smaller dishes (croquettes, padron peppers, chorizo), cheese and meat boards, and larger plates including fish & chips, and burgers."

Cons:

  • "For 22 pounds one does not exactly expect a 1/6 in steak served on top of bland fries."
  • "The beef had some stringy parts, too hard to cut or chew. Potatoes were dry and lacked seasoning."
  • "The only downside was my first drink of Cloudwater IPA tasted like sour yoghurt, and the glass on the second pint of Anspach was filthy."
  • "The roast dinner gravy was very gooey, and the roast wasn’t very nice."
  • "Just not good enough paying £19.25 for a roast beef including of service charge."
  • "The Yorkshire pudding was cold and soft."
  • "The roast potatoes was hard to cut through as if its been re-heated in the microwave."

Atmosphere & Location

Pros:

  • "So close to the beaten path, but still a little hidden."
  • "Great atmosphere, with great craft beer, in a cute neighborhood."
  • "Cosy little pub, located out of the way of crowds."
  • "The Dean Swift is a stylish stop tucked down a quiet street just steps from the bustle of Tower Bridge."
  • "The pub is a little out of the main hustle and bustle of the river but what a great find - a lovely atmosphere with a nice buzz."
  • "It's our local for work and can't be beat for good beer, good service and catching the afternoon sun out on the street."
  • "Nice little pub, slightly hidden from crazy crowds near the Tower Bridge."

Cons:

  • "Disappointing visit since the renovation. Overcrowded, overpriced, mediocre food, and service was slow, but friendly at least."
  • "It was so unbelievably loud upstairs with two tables of about 20 people competing for air time."
  • "Came for their well known Sunday roast only to find they had only chicken left, no beef, no lamb."
  • "To people looking for a place to drink, I would encourage you to find somewhere else."
  • "Have to take a star off because there is only one shared toilet upstairs, which is tiny and unfortunately their black currant mixer is vile."
  • "It can get very loud when the match is on."
  • "A sad location that has been de-pubbed."

Service

Pros:

  • "Friendly staff."
  • "Staff always friendly and quick to serve."
  • "Very helpful staff who are friendly and keen to assist."

  • "Some of the friendliest and most attentive service I have experienced anywhere in London."
  • "The guys working there were quite friendly chatting with us about our plans and making suggestions about where we should visit while in London."
  • "The staff were all very friendly and helpful especially Ash who did a good job in serving us."

Cons:

  • "Witnessed him be generally awful to most customers."
  • "The manager often calls me late at night, when I assume he is also drunk."
  • "Heard him moaning at the bar about our table not giving a tip."
  • "The staff are consistently drunk on shift."
  • "Bald guy behind bar very angry and rude towards all customers."
  • "Service (from certain people who work weekends) can be ridiculously poor."
  • "The manager who refused to give me his name (tall guy, maybe eastern european, on the heavy side) was the most unprofessional and rude bar manager I have ever encounter."

Value

Pros:

  • "Good (but pricey) beer selection."
  • "Small plates were quite expensive at around £6-£8 but they were quality."
  • "Fair prices and very friendly."
  • "Decent prices average to area."
  • "The Sunday roast is available in a few options: veggie (mushroom pie), chicken, lamb and beef, priced between 14-18.50£ respectively, so very reasonable in my opinion."
  • "Stopped by for a Sunday roast. Great selection of beers and the food was top quality, not cheap by any stretch, but I'd say worth paying the bit extra."
  • "Nice pub, went a couple of times.. Very good food although not super cheap."

Cons:

  • "For 22 pounds one does not exactly expect a 1/6 in steak served on top of bland fries."
  • "Bit pricey for a black country bloke but the beer was good."
  • "Lovely friendly pub, bit shocked at beer prices, but then, we come down from up north."
  • "Overpriced, mediocre food, and service was slow, but friendly at least."
  • "However prices are a bit eye watering."
  • "Just not good enough paying £19.25 for a roast beef including of service charge."
  • "The potatoes were seriously lacking. I don't think the price is justified, nor the reputation unless we were just unlucky."
