Ambiance

Pros:

  • "No loud music which makes a perfect ambiance to have a normal civilized conversation with people."
  • "The restaurant area is well decorated and modern but you still get the warm and cosy vibe that pubs should emit."
  • "Fabulous welcoming atmosphere."
  • "A great place for lunch and dinner with great staff, and a great atmosphere."
  • "Inside is rustic but modern with a warm atmosphere."
  • "Wonderful atmosphere."
  • "Gorgeous location, beautiful seating areas outside & in."

Cons:

  • "Sitting outside was an issue due to flies and wasps."
  • "Had to give a mediocre mark for atmosphere as we were seated in the barn. Cold, and subjected to probably the only council people in Surrey (not us), who had the noisiest children with unruly parents."
  • "It was VERY busy, so chaotic."
  • "So altogether a disappointing visit on a dull rainy afternoon."
  • "Despite there being lots of free tables we were told to sit outside in the 'heated patio' which is just a big shed with some heaters."
  • "Restaurant is packed and very noisy."
  • "The one unfortunate downfall would be the parking, the parking out back gets very full very fast and the parking out front can be dangerous and cause less than ideal situations."

Service

Pros:

  • "Staff were attentive and polite."
  • "Service is wonderful, welcoming smiles all round, polite and helpful."
  • "Very welcoming and friendly staff from the moment we walked in we felt relaxed."
  • "Staff were incredibly polite and helpful."
  • "The whole team at the old plough are terrific but the restaurant manager Lisa deserves a particular mention for her consistently welcoming professional and accommodating approach…always unfazed by anything this incredibly busy pub throws at her…outstanding!"
  • "Really friendly and tentative staff."
  • "The staff are always on hand to help and are very attentive without being in your face!"

Cons:

  • "Waiters and waitresses were over occupied and food mostly undercooked (main and dessert)."
  • "Very busy so we were a bit neglected at our table."
  • "Asked. For water from another lanky barman. Again no smiles. No welcoming attitude."
  • "The waitress named Mio was very rude and unwelcoming."
  • "We didn't get the table we reserved so 6 of us squashed around a table for 4 - will still go again but very disappointed this time."
  • "Run by the rudest most snobby and dismissive lady I've ever come across."
  • "The staff had very little idea what to do."

Food Quality

Pros:

  • "Pints always seem proper and never had an issue with the food."

  • "Can recommend the Aperols and the schnitzel but everyone’s food looked great."
  • "The service and food is fantastic!"
  • "The food was fantastic and I still can't believe the value for money."

Cons:

  • "The fish and chips were way below acceptable. Fish batter was hard on the outside but the inside was wet and soggy the fish was partly raw, the minted peas were dry and hard."
  • "The truffle fries are a bit heavy."
  • "The fish was oily and dry and the chips overcooked."
  • "The chips which I found a bit bland and a little over cooked."
  • "The schnizel was very nice but maybe a touch greasy."
  • "The fishcake was all potato, zero fish."
  • "The batter was like a grease sponge and the fish was a tasteless greasy mush."

Value for Money

Parking & Accessibility

Pros:

  • "This is a lovely spot. Plenty of parking."
  • "Very well organised for Covid regulations."
  • "Great outdoor space so probably one of the best gastropubs during the summer months."

Cons:

  • "If the Old Plough could improve on something I would say parking is a issue, as it’s such a popular pub the car park and road around the pub are always full, this can be aggravating."
  • "The biggest issue is parking, as the pub's popular (book well in advance) and the carpark is small."
  • "Needs more parking or relaxation of yellow lines outside so you can enjoy your trip without worrying about parking tickets."
  • "It can get very busy at times and, if it is busy, parking can sometimes be a little tricky but it's worth a short walk."
  • "The one unfortunate downfall would be the parking, the parking out back gets very full very fast and the parking out front can be dangerous and cause less than ideal situations."
  • "Parking is limited so you'd better of sharing a lift or getting a taxi to enjoy the good food and drinks in full."
  • "Only downside is there is no much space at the bar and if you want to have a drink before your meal (or after) you will very likely have to stand in a very crowded small area close to the entrance."
