Store Layout & Cleanliness

Pros:

  • "I like this Sainsbury's on Lewes Road. It has all the things. Deceptively big."
  • "Good sized supermarket."
  • "A hypermarket with everything under one roof. Situated at the heart of the Lewes Road, Brighton in a Victorian type structure with ample space underground for car park."
  • "Led in through an intricate moving carpet made up of over 50 shades of gray, the interior of the store reveals its inner beauty."
  • "Good selection of food stuffs, and produce. Wheelchair friendly accessibility."
  • "A decent sized sainsbury's conveniently based near to bus stop and within walking distance of Brighton University and the busy Lewes Road."
  • "Great place to shop. Really well laid out and staff are helpful."

Cons:

  • "The layout and location of the store is just awful. Very cramped, untidy and it hardly ever has enough of the usual products."
  • "What an absolute state of a store. This has got to be the most untidy Sainsbury's store I have ever been to."
  • "The store itself has been looking rather drab lately, especially the area where the escalators are. Could do with a clean up and a lick of paint."
  • "Very tired store. Always feels dirty. The gents toilets are a disgrace and the store manager should be embarrassed with them."
  • "The entrance with the travelator is still very grubby and needs a deep clean especially the light globes."
  • "Possibly the most boring and neglected sainsburys store, been reporting various things to staff but it doesn't seem they care as nothing that's been reported got done."
  • "It's tired, bit run down, and definitely not a superstore, but it stocks most of your needs."

Product Selection & Prices

Pros:

  • "For a supermarket, there's a great variety of European and world food."

Cons:

  • "Too much plastic on veg. + fruit and prices can be varied in that it can be very pricey."
  • "They say they match their prices to Aldi's but they don't Aldi seem to be much much cheaper."
  • "Prices are higher than some competitors and Sainsburys Own Brand quality has severely dropped."
  • "Most prices are above the local average. Ready meals at 3.50 for 1 person is rather expensive."
  • "Unfortunately, the range is limited for a large supermarket."
  • "The only reason I'm giving 3 stars it's purely because it's way too overpriced."
  • "Sadly sainsbury is over priced."

Cons:

  • "Understaffed for profit, only 2 cashiers were operating leading to very long queues at the peak time of day."
  • "Too many people being let in at one time. Extremely hard to keep social distance in store."
  • "Outside of building is tatty covered in tags/graffiti/bird s**t/ unloved ugly building which should be knocked down and replaced."
  • "The toilets are 'out of order' which seems to be code for 'we cannot be bothered to clean them'."
  • "The lift is always broken, no wheelchairs are allowed on the travelator so the only option is to go up and down the ramps in the car park usually used only by cars and it's dangerous."
  • "Appalling fire safety evacuation - an alarm went off, the majority of staff had no clue what was going on."
