Design & Ambience

Pros:

  • "Curzon Bloomsbury is my favourite cinema in London: its elegant, tasteful design is coupled with an amazing selection of movies."
  • "Amazing ambience, the cafe has an excellent coffee and pastry in the morning."
  • "Beautiful theatres. Very cosy. Attendees respectful of others. No talking. No mobiles. No noisy snacks."
  • "Curzon’s rebuild of the old Renoir cinema was inspired - it’s now a beautifully austere concrete bunker within the Brutalist monster/masterpiece that is the Brunswick Centre."
  • "The look and feel of the place is first rate."
  • "Great new art house cinema, we loved the quirky design of the building, lots of choice of films to see, really comfortable seats and brilliant screen and sound quality."
  • "The cinema has been sympathetically refurbished in keeping with the listed building status using concrete interiors in a modern way."

Cons:

  • "An excellent cinema regrettably ruined by refurbishment. The two old screens have been inadvisably portioned out into one main screen and many tiny, matchbox screens."
  • "Not as good as it was... they've now crammed too many screens into what was always a very snugg place and that has taken a toll on many of the screen sizes."
  • "The cinema (Lumiere screen) was so small it bordered on claustrophobic."
  • "Each Cinema is minute. Made the mistake of booking back row seats. Absolutely no leg room and even less room if someone wants to get past."
  • "The four 28 seat screens are so small that in the front row you have to turn your head almost 90 degrees to see from one side to the other."
  • "The Renior was a tatty but still a London gem, the Bloombury refurbishment is less so."
  • "Smacked in the face by the 'they don't take cash' crash."

Seating Comfort

Pros:

  • "The seats are very comfortable and generously sized."
  • "I love the Curzon Bloomsbury. Comfy seats, great screens and sound, a great selection of films and friendly staff with a decent selection of food and drink."
  • "I have never sat in more comfortable chairs."
  • "Large comfy sofas/seats."
  • "The seats are like large armchairs that slightly recline."
  • "The seats were reclining and really comfortable."
  • "Seats so very comfortable and spacious and even when full, the biggest screen is small enough for intimate experience yet big enough not to feel the presence of other people."

Cons:

  • "The seats are exceptionally uncomfortable."
  • "We were seated at the back, the seats were uncomfortable with VERY limited leg room, the room was airless and uncomfortably hot."
  • "For the price per ticket (£16 - £18) Vue or Picturehouse are far more comfortable, which is a massive shame."
  • "The seats are exceptionally hard, and at times it felt like sitting on a rock."
  • "Unfortunately the seating in the smaller screens is cramped."
  • "The seats are exceptionally hard, and at times it felt like sitting on a rock."
  • "Chairs absolutely filthy. Seating needs a refurbishment ASAP - it's been this way for at least 4 years."

Service & Staff

Pros:

  • "The staff were all really helpful and friendly."
  • "Staff are amazing here; really friendly, they definitely enjoy their work and it's always nice when people love what they do."

  • "Great atmosphere, amazing coffee and lovely staff, especially Jeffrey, the manager who is very kind to everyone and has very good taste in movies."

Cons:

  • "Arrived with a friend to buy tickets for a film ten minutes before its start time... only to be told the disabled access tickets had been sold by the other sales assistant - there was no real apology and staff were very defensive."
  • "It took the bartender 20 minutes to make 2 cocktails, meaning we missed the start of the film."
  • "This feedback was passed on to staff and didn't get much of a reply."
  • "We complained and we were told someone would come and talk to us but after waiting for 15 minutes... we decided to leave as no one was interested to hear about our experience."
  • "So I asked how I buy tickets and they just responded with very short cold answers. I did not feel very welcome."
  • "It is frustrating that the same person whom you purchase tickets from will also prepare and serve your food/drink."
  • "The cinema screens are awfully signposted and there are barely any staff to help."

Value & Pricing

Pros:

  • "Discount on tickets at certain times."
  • "Like all cinemas can be a bit pricey but do student discounts etc which lowers the price."

  • "Prices for the afternoon screenings are keen."
  • "The price and taste of popcorn were all right."
  • "Free on-street parking nearby is a doddle too."
  • "Not cheap but worth it for the right occasion."

Cons:

  • "Peak evening cinema screening cost an eye watering £16.50 each."
  • "For 15 pounds a ticket you'd expect a reasonably nice cinema and comfortable seats right? Wrong!"
  • "The only downside is the eye-watering price for tickets."
