  • "The evening meals on the Saturday were very poor and were left mainly uneaten."
  • "The food was cooked nicely but the portion sizes were on the small size."
  • "The food was also rather over priced for what you got."
  • "While tasty enough the Salmon was an extremly small portion."
  • "The food was OK but I personally was disappointed with my beef bouganien which was a little dry and had to ask for more gravy."

Service

Pros:

  • "The staff are wonderful, the food was great and the beer was up there with the nicest I've had."
  • "Staff friendly and helpful. All in all excellent service."
  • "The hostess (maybe manager? not sure) couldn't have been more helpful and seemed to have had to deal with that situation before, she immediately upgraded us to their cottage which was amazing."
  • "Staff are always polite, helpful and very efficient."
  • "Friendly welcoming staff and excellent service."
  • "The service was second to none."
  • "Staff very friendly and helpful."

Cons:

  • "The service was appoling: my daughter was trying to get an attention waving her hands and ignored."
  • "It took approx. 1 hour and 20 minutes for our food to arrive without an apology from the staff."
  • "Food was good but the service was very poor."
  • "Service was a little inattentive, but not to the point that it was a major issue."
  • "Service at the bar was abysmal. Landlord/barman's attitude was disdainful at best."

Accommodation

Pros:

  • "They have a few rooms that are quite spacious and also allow dogs in them. They have great views over the Cheshire Plain."
  • "Comfortable rooms, really good prices."
  • "Our room was very nice with a lovely view of the sunset, especially given the secluded nature of the inn."
  • "We had the cottage for the night and it was beautifully presented and had everything."
  • "The room we were allocated was in a barn opposite. It was small but very nicely renovated and decorated."
  • "Our room was compact but very stylish and well designed and very clean."
  • "Rooms gorgeous - so well decorated and really cosy."

Cons:

  • "Sadly we did not have a good experience and would not return."
  • "On arrival all the really nice outside tables that we all want to sit at were either occupied or had a reserved sign."
  • "The rooms were starting to look a little tired."
  • "Unfortunately just as we arrived in the restaurant for breakfast we were advised that the chef was ill and had to leave."
  • "The room had a shower and no bath as I had booked however, the room was pleasant and the shower was good."
  • "Our room (Delamere) was nice, fairly well priced but is starting to look a bit tired (bathroom sink and floor tiles cracked, screws hanging out of the shaving electric point etc)."
  • "I'd avoid the smaller rooms in the courtyard on the ground floor as they don't afford much privacy and very noisy between the rooms."

Location & Views

Pros:

  • "Really nice rural pub with a stunning view across Cheshire."
  • "Access to tons of hiking nearby and straight from the Inn."
  • "Wonderful views from the seating on the terrace and slightly restricted views from the much larger beer garden."
  • "Incredible views across the Wirral, Welsh Mountains and Liverpool."
  • "Fabulous views, large car parking, real ales."
  • "Wonderful view of the Cheshire plain."
  • "The view from the garden is one of the best in the UK, overlooking the Cheshire Plains."

Cons:

  • "Couldn't get table outside as full and beer garden was not appropriate on this occasion, would have been nicer to sit in lighter brighter part of venue."
  • "We were led to a table by the fire, which is not ideal as it gets too hot especially when you're eating hot food."
  • "The chicken burger which I had was nice but some people in the party had the roast and the hottest thing was the gravy. The meat and vegetables were nearly cold."
  • "Disappointed with the quality of the roast dinner - roast potatoes seemed to have been deep fried rather than roasted and had no fluffy centre."
  • "The Christmas turkey lunch was overall nice but lacked any sprouts? a little too dry, could do with some more gravy, and the cranberry sauce was not the best tasting."
  • "Very pretty. However does not serve breakfast to anyone on the weekend that hasn't stayed there."
  • "Sadly after a long drive the staff were not interested in letting us stay for sandwiches, while booked tables sat empty."
