Atmosphere and Location

Pros:

  • "The menu is a compilation of delicious and homey classic pub food, but elevated and often with a twist."
  • "Love going to the Perch. An easy 20-minute walk from Oxford. Excellent food and service."
  • "This place just gets better in time. They made amazing use of their gigantic garden."
  • "The walking approach from the river is nothing short of magical, feeling like you're entering some form of fairy glen."
  • "Very cosy setting with a classic and atmospheric character. Location is prime, right next to port meadow."
  • "The place is beautiful and isolated, so peaceful. There is a huge garden that joins the river and a delightful walk by the river."
  • "Nestled in the heart of Oxford's serene natural surroundings, this establishment offers a truly cozy and inviting ambiance."
  • "A beautiful, old pub in equally lovely surroundings. It's been given a sympathetic makeover in recent years."

Cons:

  • "The food was nice here the fish and chips were good and my MIL loves the burger here. The place is big and has space for weddings or events and is child friendly. The only issues we had were some forgotten orders but it worked out since we had enough food anyways."
  • "We often had to call the waiter over as opposed to them coming to ask if we needed anything else."
  • "Parking not so easy, as the carpark is small but road side parking possibile."
  • "Rude front desk staff, went there on a weekend. Plenty of empty tables inside and outside."
  • "Wasn't very impressed by the layout of the Perch as we felt very squashed between the other tables around us."
  • "Great pub! Beautiful location with a great garden for summer. And, of course, amazing food too! If you go on a Sunday, make sure you have their pork roast, it's delicious! Their ginger pudding is also one of the best desserts I've had!"
  • "The child fish and chips was really undercooked, raw in the middle and was sent back. The triple cooked chips were probably 0.75 cooked chips. Insipid and flaccid."
  • "Access from the waters edge. Seated immediately in the garden and ate while the staff member at the entrance watched over our canoe. Mainly a burger menu, but we did visit during COVID."

Food and Drink

Pros:

  • "I got a pint and killed time next to the fireplace. When a few more people arrived, we moved to our table and ordered drinks, which were served on time."
  • "The vegan Wellington, Sunday roast, roast potato side, and chocolate cake have been some of my favorite dishes."
  • "I also love the apple cider with rum they offer in Winter."
  • "Excellent all round. Celebrated friend's birthday. Indoors was full and served outdoors. Heaters were installed. Starter Fish was delicious."
  • "I went for Sunday roast and it was incredible. Everything in the roast was naturally gluten free except the Yorkshire puddings."
  • "The menu boasts a whole lot of vegan and vegetarian options, for those who need that, but for me the steak and mushroom pie greatly satisfied my needs in the typically turbulent weather."
  • "The quintessential British pub that's taken a step towards being clean, cozy, tastefully decorated and boasts a lush garden with twinkling lights."
  • "The roast dinner was lovely, the beer was good and the staff were wonderful."

Cons:

  • "The food is just okay (the warm bread was a bit too hard to chew). Nothing very memorable."
  • "Great sunday roast but if you want to eat your meal in double quick time, get ingestion and be hassled to vacate your table so they can have 3/4 table sittings."
  • "2nd time we have been in 2 months. The food was really nice although the service was a little slow for mid week off peak."
  • "The food arrived quick, tasted really good, enjoyed every bite of it. Went for vegetarian options and I was not disappointed at all. Plenty of choice and they also have a vegan menu available."
  • "Food was good, staff attentive, enjoyable couple of hours as met up with family there. Parking is ridiculas though, only access in the lane for one car with no passing spaces."
  • "We went for dinner tonight, May 20th. Despite a relatively attentive start at 6:15PM by the wait staff, after dinner was served (some 40+(!) minutes after we ordered it), we were completely neglected as no wait staff ever again came by our table."
  • "Great pub with beautiful gardens. The staff were excellent and they hand annotated our menus for gluten free and dairy free dietary requirements. Very tasty food and made for a lovely day out after a walk along the river."
  • "The food was nice here the fish and chips were good and my MIL loves the burger here. The place is big and has space for weddings or events and is child friendly. The only issues we had were some forgotten orders but it worked out since we had enough food anyways."
