Food Quality

Pros:

  • "The sushi tasted fresh and was well made."
  • "Food is fabulous, plentiful, presented well and extremely tasty."
  • "Probably the best restaurant in Cardiff Bay. Authentic Japanese food, not cheap but well-prepared and worth every penny."
  • "The food was extremely tasty and the service was excellent."
  • "The Salmon and Avocado Maki has a wicked wasabi mayo."
  • "The food was amazing, had the grilled steak ramen and finished the whole bowl considering ordering more!"
  • "The food was absolutely delicious! The ramen broth was so flavourful and fresh, and the sushi was possibly the best I’ve had anywhere."

Cons:

  • "A very poor experience from this place, when I once rated this place."
  • "So, after waiting for our overpriced, not very good sushi..."
  • "The salmon was bland and the egg noodles were dry."
  • "Very poor quality sushi. 'Spicy tuna' maki roll was simply regular tuna with a horrid amount of sriracha sauce poured over the top."
  • "The food was very mediocre: the salmon in the salmon teriyaki was very dry, the chicken katsu was dry and not crispy."
  • "Food was a bit bland. Ramen didn’t have much flavour to it."
  • "Food was ok however, the sashimi made me extremely sick and had a massive stomach ache."

Service

Pros:

  • "Made us feel very welcome with our baby and it was lovely to be in a venue where it felt natural for breast feeding to happen."
  • "The staff were lovely."
  • "Really good quality, fresh ingredients and well priced."
  • "The staff were really helpful and attentive."
  • "Staff friendly and welcoming."
  • "Very impressed with the proprietor, who was dealing with the whole restaurant himself yet still providing quick, friendly service."
  • "The service was attentive and prompt."

Cons:

  • "Really nice place, however staff seem uninformed on allergies."
  • "I complained to the manager and he displayed no sympathy, I am utterly disgusted by the service and the food of such a 'well established' sushi/Japanese restaurant."
  • "No sight of the manager ... Staff had no clue what to say when asked about the menu and food..."
  • "The manager ruin the night making a big fuss about our pram taking too much room when the place was literally empty."
  • "Service can be a little stiff and awkward."
  • "Staff were curt and tables smelled of bacteria and sticky due to poor cleaning, so hygiene may be an issue here."
  • "Staff was very cold, took our order in rush and never checked back on us while we were eating nor after we finished."

Atmosphere

Pros:

  • "It was cool to be able to see the kitchen from the dining area and it didn’t feel cramped, despite being a quaint restaurant."
  • "The restaurant had a very nice atmosphere- good lighting, clean tables and a lovely set up."
  • "Restaurant has a nice vibe."
  • "Atmosphere was relaxed and the staff were polite."
  • "Ultra-modern seating, glass panelling in shades of bold red and grey walls with industrial lighting creates a stylised urban feel to the eating area."
  • "Loved the atmosphere of this place."
  • "The atmosphere is always very inviting, you can even see the kitchen as the food is being prepared!"

Cons:

  • "Booked a table 2 months in advance to celebrate graduation. With 3 days to go they've just cancelled and told me they're closed for a staff training day."
  • "No views and little atmosphere. Just OK."
  • "It can be quite noisy when busy, but that's to be expected, so best to go when not too busy."
  • "Was an especially hot day so could have done with some air conditioning but overall had a good experience."
  • "Very disappointed with customer service it was our favourite place until last visit it wasn't busy at all yet it took forever for staff to take our order..."
  • "The floor of the entire restaurant was coated in grease, felt like I was grease skating."
  • "Disgusted. Arrived at 8:40 restaurant closes at 10 and waitress instantly refused us entry."

Value

Pros:

  • "I paid £50.90 for all that, which is OK, I suppose."
  • "The price for the lunch specials is great value for the same great food."
  • "Its reasonably priced."
  • "Food was delicious and with the lunchtime specials great value for money."
  • "The best Japanese food in Cardiff for a reasonable price."
  • "Really generous portions and the food tasted amazingly delicious."
  • "You do spend more then you would in other Japanese food chains but the quality of the food matches what you are paying for so well worth it!"

Cons:

  • "UPDATE: ...We ended up in McDonald's after paying £80 for three courses on our last visit as we were still hungry so probably won't be back here as often any more :("
  • "Only downside is that the sushi was quite pricey and the other sushi place around the corner were selling 20 sushi rolls for just £11 vs £12.50 for eight rolls at yakitiro."
  • "A bit overpriced as well - look to spend around ~£15 for a plate of duck fried rice and ~£14 for a maki roll."
  • "The place is decent but for the small portion sizes and lack of authentic taste we will not be returning."
  • "The biggest issue was just that the dishes were relatively expensive for the small portion sizes."
  • "Unfortunately the portions have now halved and the prices still high so you have to pay an awful lot for a full meal..."
  • "Not bad, but a bit pricey."
