Food Quality

  • "The pie was delicious and full to the brim."
  • "The starter, Asian style pork belly with chilli and scallions was amazing."

  • "The food was absolutely lovely everything we all had to eat."
  • "Food was lovely best steak pie I've had in a long time."

Cons:

  • "Monkfish curry with prawns was overcooked. Possibly reheated several times as the fish texture was mush and the prawns outer burnt."
  • "The roast potatoes and vegetables were pretty inedible and the beef was basically stewed braising beef, not what I would expect from a Sunday lunch."
  • "Only disappointed - as much as the chips are great I wish they were served straight from cooker as they were not hot and slightly soggy under the fish."
  • "Food was tasteless, I got the Cajun cod and you absolutely cannot taste any Cajun in there."
  • "None of the staff were wearing masks. The food all came out at the same time and was hot, but the fish and chips were bad. Fish was overcooked and very oily."
  • "The beef was over cooked, potatoes were frozen (I can only assume) and the Yorkshire was burnt."
  • "Food not great. steak was chewy. Starters were nice but mains could definitely be improved."

Staff and Service

  • "Thank you to all of the staff for being welcoming and attentive and the chef for the amazing food."
  • "Service was outstanding, very friendly."

Cons:

  • "The waitress was rude and instead of just saying I’m so sorry but I’ll seat you somewhere else she just walked off."
  • "We were asked by the waiter if our meals were OK, we stated not really this was just brushed off as he took our plates away."
  • "It must've been a long summer for the staff. Not welcoming and only 'corporate smiles' dispensed."
  • "Not very dog friendly, walked in and bar staff a bit short saying 'dogs not allowed before 8 o'clock suggesting we sit out the back'."
  • "No atmosphere and not very friendly staff. An expensive waste of time with poor quality and pints pulled straight from the local gut!! And yes the manager is very rude and obnoxious as mentioned in other reviews."
  • "The staff behind the bar were very loud during the whole time we were here."
  • "Today however, the service was terrible!!! No cutlery or sauces brought before meal, asked where my meal was after 25 minutes and people after me were having their meal."

Atmosphere and Location

Pros:

  • "Absolutely love this place, it's the kind of pub you don't want to leave."
  • "Great pub ! Brilliant location, very clean and very friendly staff and food is lovely."
  • "Lovely traditional pub. Open fires, nicely furnished, ideal place to warm up and have a drink after a walk on the beach."
  • "Lovely little pub with great scenic sitting area outside the front which is south facing and has the sun all day."
  • "Nice County style pub tucked out the way next to sea front."
  • "Gorgeous old pub and well located by the coast, lots parking."
  • "Beautifull 17th Century pub on the cliff tops with an amazing view when sitting outside."

Cons:

  • "Only downside would be the price, if people only want to go for drinks, should maybe think about lowering them as customers can only afford a couple then go somewhere cheaper."
  • "Not as nice as a few years ago....this time seemed a little disorganized."
  • "Only seating was in smoking area outside or facing onto the road not ideal with children or for eating."
  • "Nice pub and nice meal if not for the few VERY loud locals in."
  • "Chips too crispy like they’d been over fried."
  • "Tables very small with little room once plates are in place."
  • "Sunny little beer garden but disappointing selection of beers despite advertising Real Ales. Staff didn't know anything about their beers & not that interested either."

Value for Money

Pros:

  • "Food was great. Well priced with friendly staff."
  • "Good value."
  • "Tasty but not outstanding, but excellent value for money."
  • "Wow! Sautéed chicken in a mushroom and sherry cream sauce with slice fried potatoes and cheese. Served with a crusty roll. Only £14. Freshly cooked. Exceptional value and so tasty."
  • "The food was very nice, good portions and well presented at a fair price."
  • "Menu was great with very reasonable prices."
  • "As always: great atmosphere, great food, good value for money and excellent service."

Cons:

  • "Beer was decent however a tad expensive at over a fiver a pint."
  • "Decent food but a tad expensive for what you're paying for."
  • "Very overpriced too, it's no better than standard bar food but menu prices do not reflect the quality of what you get served."
  • "The food was great (fish and chips), but I wouldn't call the price budget."
  • "Real Ale wasn't up to the scratch, but you can't have everything."
  • "I give 2 stars for the fact we didn't have to wait long, but food wasn't what I expected, plain and bland fish even the beer batter wasn't seasoned at all."
  • "Probably one of the worst Sunday lunches I’ve ever had. Small potions. New potatoes with the nut roast and no Yorkshire pudding."
