  • "However the chicken satay was inedible, with the chicken tasting rubbery and the sauce lacking any flavour."
  • "Fish pie from the specials board had two thumb nail size bits of fish so it was cheese and potato pie with a few peas"
  • "They were hard, really over cooked, even the chips were not nice and cold."
  • "Partners meal was mediocre, fish & chips (tasteless fish)."

  • "Ethan was very attentive and really looked after us."

Cons:

  • "Like sitting in a works canteen."
  • "Effectively we may as well have been outside."
  • "Service abysmal, waited 1hr 30 to get a table for food with no communication at all from the front of house."
  • "Waitress was awful, young girl with glasses, clearly wanted to be elsewhere, banged every plate down on the table, never cracked a smile she really was hostile."

  • "There were 3 people behind the bar when we arrived but they ignored us and other people waiting behind."

Atmosphere & Location

Pros:

  • "Tonight was very special. A great pub anyway but they turned away from football and on to the news of Her Majesty's death."
  • "Nice pub with a good selection of beer."
  • "The place is dog and kid friendly as well which was fantastic."
  • "Great pub for eating with a view over the harbour."
  • "Range of local real ales (St Austell brewery), cosy interior, outside seating at the front overlooks the harbour, also a beer garden to the rear. Good place for food - the nachos were terrific."
  • "Lovely atmosphere, lovely staff lovely food."
  • "Always our first stop when coming to Padstow."

Cons:

  • "There where a lot of dogs in there and a very strong odour of them"
  • "But have to say the current Sunday menu (the only menu on a Sunday) is pretty bad, and awful value for money."
  • "Would give 0 if I could. Never experienced such a hostile and aggressive front of house in all my life. A miserable old man best describes it."
  • "However our most recent visit was disappointing, not bad at all please don't get me wrong, but compared to previous years and when compared to other St. Austells pubs doing the same menu, we felt they hadn't given the food the same attention to detail."
  • "Considering this is such an old building, upstairs is totally lacking in any atmosphere."
  • "The main 'tipping point' for leaving was not just the lack of fish on the menu and no specials but having the TV's in a room that used to be such a nice escape."
  • "It was also like a creche for disruptive kids upstairs!"
