Food Quality

Pros:

  • "The food was excellent - lots of game from the local estate on the menu (the venison burgers and game terrine were spot on, and the cranachan parfait was πŸ‘Œ)."
  • "Many of our guests said it was the best food they had ever had at a wedding!"
  • "The food was good and service was fine."
  • "The food was incredible. I had mussels for starters and venison pie special for mains and both were some of the best I've ever eaten."
  • "Food was excellent (fish VERY good, oysters EXCEPTIONAL)."
  • "Food was absolutely outstanding, and for its outstanding quality very reasonably priced!"
  • "The food was absolutely delicious!"

Cons:

  • "Cullen skink was almost inedible (a local dish so should have been good), utterly tasteless beetroot, salmon roulade filled with awful pre-bought cream cheese paste and tough chicken."
  • "The bread for the sandwiches was standard supermarket white bread and the chips were frozen."
  • "No option for white bread, egg not cooked and service very poor."
  • "Cured salmon - sadly not that great."
  • "Food is normally great. My partner had a burger which looked lovely I opted for the chicken Caesar salad. Although it was missing most of the ingredients so was more a chicken, lettuce cheese mayo salad No croutons, anchovies and the pancetta was more a sprinkling of very sparse bacon glitter."
  • "The food was so awful we couldn’t eat it, the bulgerwheat & chickpea burger was like a hockey puck no chef made that, absolutely disgusting."
  • "Unfortunately the Lemon and Herb Chicken with Chicken Fries was a let down, the chicken was not roasted very well with the binding string left attached and the chicken fries were actually really off putting tasting over seasoned and artificial."

Service

Pros:

  • "Lovely place, booked a table for a Wednesday, was nice & quiet, shown to our table, pleasant staff, clean & fast service food excellent."
  • "Service was friendly and efficient."
  • "The restaurant was wonderful with attentive and friendly staff who couldn’t do enough for you."
  • "The staff were attentive and friendly too - they did everything possible to ensure we had a lovely meal."
  • "Extremely friendly staff who couldn't do enough to help make our stay a great wee experience."
  • "Staff were really nice and friendly too."
  • "Very professional and caring staff."

Cons:

  • "Very frustrating to have received a parking ticket despite being a guest at the restaurant."
  • "Staff need more training as they seemed disinterested."
  • "Made to feel very uncomfortable during our whole stay."
  • "Some of the staff not particularly welcoming, especially the bald man who works at night."
  • "The food was really good, but the service in the restaurant is pretty average. Lovely people but incredibly slow."
  • "The service was odd... Either way too over friendly and fake or surly and distant..."
  • "Dreadful waiting staff who had no knowledge of the food on offer, stretched right across us and had no understanding about β€˜tasting’ wine before pouring the whole bottle."

Accommodation

Pros:

  • "Bedroom was perfect for our needs, only issue was the pillows could be doing with being replaced as they were very floppy and soft."
  • "The whole atmosphere of the hotel is warm and welcoming, with a truly lovely country pub feel."
  • "Our room was lovely - very traditional with all mod cons."
  • "There was a large en suite bathroom with both roll-top bath and separate shower, plus his n hers sinks, separate area for tea/coffee etc (with generous supplies, refilled each day) and a walk in area for clothes cases and dressing."
  • "We stayed in the Lomond room, which was very spacious with a large 4 poster bed, possibly the comfiest I have ever tried."
  • "The hotel has an old school charm but is well maintained and clean. Our room was comfortable and spacious."
  • "Cosy room with comfy bedding and everything you should need including coffee tea etc."

Cons:

  • "Room was okay but not sure it was worth the Β£215 for the one night. Very basic and very noise."
  • "The bathroom was supplied with shower gel etc just no shower over the bath in our room but no issue for us."
  • "The room was at the top of the hotel."
  • "For Β£145 I’m so glad we were not there for longer in my opinion not 4 star quality."
  • "The room was very small and shabby and not in a chic way."
  • "We were seated in a 'dining pod'. Essentially a glorified shed."
  • "Pretty room but very small and in the attic which was incredibly expensive for what it was."

Location & Atmosphere

Pros:

  • "The area is fantastic if you like walking and/or fabulous scenery."
  • "The location was great since you can walk to the pier and beach as well as the fairy trail easily."
  • "Gorgeous setting."
  • "Atmosphere was very nice and made for a very peaceful romantic dinner for our last evening in Luss."
  • "The village was one of the most scenic in all that we visited in Scotland."
  • "What a beautiful place with incredible scenery. It’s a wonderful area."
  • "The venue is located in a picturesque setting, with breathtaking views of Loch Lomond and the surrounding hills."

Cons:

  • "Just be careful of the car park. Parking Eye are ruthless opportunistic robbers."
  • "We were stung by the same parking issue that many of the reviewers have faced."
  • "But then we get hit by a Β£100 parking charge when we get home for parking in the car park for less than an hour and not 'registering' it with them."
  • "The only downside was the constant barking from others out-of-control or otherwise untrained dogs constantly barking. Killed the otherwise very pleasant ambiance."
  • "The windows being left open also meant it was full of midges."
  • "Sadly they are clearly running some sort of parking scam."
  • "Would prefer smokers to be in a separate area of the garden."
