Venue and Staff

Pros:

  • "The Theatre Royal is a wonderful place to experience live theatre."
  • "Great venue and friendly staff, I'd recommend not getting front row seats here as the speakers and high stage could block your view."
  • "Lovely venue which offers various tips of shows and concerts."
  • "The venue was very clean and spacious, and staff were friendly and helpful."
  • "So easy to book & choose yr own seats, they have a seating layout of each concert hall according to which show yr seeing."
  • "Staff here are lovely and helpful. It's such a friendly Theatre and Concert Hall, this venue is for everyone."
  • "Always a pleasure to go to this iconic venue."

Cons:

  • "Venue was fine but really have to comment on the wifi! We needed internet to take part in the show (interactive slido) and the wifi had so many steps to get onto it, I never actually made it."
  • "There was nowhere online when we booked the tickets (in October 2022) saying that the seats were restricted viewing, we paid full price and weren't able to see the full show."
  • "The venues OK but the Overtones aren't my idea of entertainment."
  • "Exiting theatre worse due to one way system."
  • "The staff (other than one gentleman who offered to move our seats) were absolutely abysmal, particularly in the foyer."
  • "Gave us the wrong directions to areas of the venue and were outright rude."
  • "However.... the staff at the venue didn't have a clue. We paid for tier 2 (as we like to see the full stage) and selected end seats to be told that due to staffing issues and not full sales of tickets that we have to ve reseated."

Seating and Comfort

Pros:

  • "The access here was superb, we had a private box at the back to the dress circle, the view was great."
  • "The Theatre has achieved Gold Star status for their Disabled accessibility."
  • "In terms of access for disabled people, I found the staff incredibly friendly and helpful."
  • "The seating was spacious, and there was plenty of leg room. (We sat in the stalls)."
  • "Even though the seating in the theatre itself might seem small (compared to a cinema) the seats are comfortable and with good views of the stage."
  • "The seats are a good size and not battered like you see some."
  • "Seats are comfortable and there is plenty of legroom between the rows."

Cons:

  • "The most uncomfortable seats known to humanity. If you’re over 5’9” then you don’t stand a chance."
  • "Seats were so small and cramped, our backs and shoulders are aching now."
  • "Seats are small, designed for a previous slimmer generation! Prepare to feel wedged in if you have a bigger than slim bum."
  • "This has got to be the most uncomfortable theatre I've been to. The seats are tiny."
  • "Small seats with very little leg room."
  • "The seats in the upper stalls are so tiny that as a mid size woman, I always leave with marks on my legs."
  • "The seats were quite small and cramped."

Accessibility and Parking

Pros:

  • "There are toilets and bars on all 3 floors. A glass lift in the middle of the foyer makes all the difference for those of us who might struggle with stairs."
  • "Discounted local Parking is avail. £6.50 for 6 hours (payable at Theatre kiosk) is within easy walking distance and allows you to enjoy a relaxed visit."
  • "The tram stop is directly outside the Theatre Royal so you really can't get lost."
  • "Wheelchair accessibility is good, there are lifts, ramps, and disabled toilets as well as a large changing places toilet."
  • "Lot of wide steps to the various levels but also has a couple of decent sized lifts."
  • "Great access for disabled, with a ramp from the ground floor and a lift too."
  • "The venue seemed well equipped for disabled customers with lifts and ramp access."
