Customer Service

Pros:

  • "Great shop. Very friendly service. Lots of accessories and unusual bikes you won't find elsewhere."
  • "Very attentive and great experience. They understand the needs of a client very well."
  • "Such friendly service from the staff. Not an ounce of snobbery."
  • "Quick call to Hub Velo and sorted within a couple of days, shifting cable issue. 3rd of the price. Very pleased."
  • "Always an excellent service here, mechanics know their stuff and won't sell you stuff you don't need."
  • "I can't speak highly enough of the shop and the team that work there. Very welcoming to all levels of cyclists and extremely efficient and cost effective servicing and repairs in their workshop."
  • "Great staff and extremely helpful."

Cons:

  • "Overpriced bike repairs and they have always charged more than quoted without contacting me first."
  • "The problem with Hub Velo is they think they're too prestige but want to keep that 'local business' vibe. Most of the staff are rude and arrogant."
  • "Staff were extremely unhelpful."
  • "Totally Unprofessional. Took my bike for a couple broken spokes. They check it and requested £18 for 4 days appointment. Arrived at my appointment on time and now the price is £35."
  • "They're not rude or anything but it just seems as if the staff have never worked in customer service before."
  • "They can be quite short and passive aggressive with you sometimes."
  • "Incredibly rude staff on more than one occasion."

Repair Quality

Pros:

  • "Went in today when I got stuck with a DIY repair.; I couldn’t get a crank released from a BB spindle. Really helpful, resolved in minutes and at no charge."
  • "Came in over the weekend with a problem with my (knackered) tandem…Staff member was super helpful."
  • "I took my bike in this morning to have a new inner tube fitted - service was swift, efficient and a great price."
  • "Diagnosed and replaced my slipping cassette in quick time and for a great price."
  • "Friendly helpful guys, rebuilt my rear wheel and it’s solid and looks sharp."
  • "I took my Orbit to Hub Velo to change the handle bar, cables and cogs. I supplied the parts and the shop did an astonishing job."
  • "Lovely people who gave me great advice and my subsequent wheel build was perfect."

Cons:

  • "I went there to fix the brakes of my bike. Cost £20. After less then 24 hours one broke already."
  • "I brought my bike in to replace the rear cassette and for a service... Now it makes grinding noises and skips gears."
  • "Basically had to fix everything they touched."
  • "Too much style over substance."
  • "I'm pretty sure that all they did was wash the chain and put a cable tie around some cables. They didn't even lube the chain or check tyre pressure!!"
  • "Tyre was put on backwards, chain was so loose it kept falling off."
  • "After servicing it here, my Brompton became more and more creaky."

Price and Efficiency

Pros:

  • "Phoned for a service around 1220 on a Wednesday (9th November). Bike was ready by 1335."
  • "After having my bike serviced here, I noticed a few weeks later during a puncture repair that my new tire had worn out early. I took the tire back and the team at HV promptly replaced it with a better tyre and fitted it for me at no extra cost."
  • "Everything I brought was cheaper than I anticipated."
  • "Fast, affordable service team."
  • "Gary saved my life (weekend) this morning, sorting me out with some very last minute rim tape to save my cycling trip and for a very, VERY reasonable price :)"
  • "Really nice guys. Fixed my bike there and then (having previously been told from another shop that it would be a week wait) and for an unexpectedly good price."
  • "Been using the free bike pump outside the shop for years but always assumed due to the professional appearance that it would be expensive for repairs. I was wrong. Great service, great value."

Cons:

  • "So unprofessional. I booked my bike in for a service (2wks in advance) l was told to arrive early (8:30am) and it would be ready by the end of the day (6:30pm) Fine. It's now 6pm and l went to collect it only to be told they were too busy they couldn't do it today!!"
  • "Kept putting off my repair, and prioritising other customers. Their repair did not fill me with confidence."
  • "They did not offer any compensation for this and charged me the full price."
  • "Took my bike in because of gear shift issues... Went to collect the bike next day and was presented with a £119 bill."
  • "Visited a few weeks ago to buy inner tubes... tried to charge me £7 each for them."
  • "Worst service received. Dropped in my rear wheel to have it straightened or you call it trimmed. They said it was going to be done today and will receive a call once its done. So same day no call received."
  • "Disappointing service from Hub Velo. It seems there is no point booking in your bike a week before, then bringing it at 8am on the appointed day, if the work still isn't dome by 5pm on that day."
