Location & Atmosphere
Pros:
"The hotel is smack bang in the middle of Holmfirth with free parking for guests (limited spaces approx 12 in total I think)."
"It is in a great location, right in the centre of Holmfirth and right next to the River Holme and so it has a very nice waterside atmosphere to it as well."
"The location of the venue makes it ideal for anyone visiting as you have everything you need close by."
"The terrace is quite large and is divided into areas for smokers and non-smokers. And great for spending time with friends talking and drinking."
"Plus, waking up to the sounds of that river and listening to them little ducks was the best wake up call ever!"
"Our bedroom, although a bit more compact than other Coaching Inn superior rooms we have previously booked, was comfortable and we were lucky enough to be allocated a room on the first floor with table & chairs on an outside terrace overlooking the town."
"The location is right in the middle of the town next door to the Picturedrome so couldn't be better situated."
Cons:
"Not the best location if you like an early night as there is an event hall next door with loud music through the night."
"The pub itself gets busy at times so can be a bit noisy until close but that wasn't a problem for us."
"Live music venue next door and the crowds out the back kept us awake until 2.30am on our 2nd night."
"It was difficult to park but this was just because it was so busy."
"We couldn't sleep due to the noise from the pub/club nearby."
"The rooms are so tiny and claustrophobic we went in April and had to sleep with the windows open due to the heat and how small the rooms were."
"Very thin walls meant there was a lot of noise from the surrounding bars and early rubbish collections."
Food Quality
Pros:
"Restaurant has wonderful food. Never been disappointed yet."
"The food was very good although we only had breakfast."
"Excellent quality of food and huge portions, particularly the filled Yorkshire puddings."
"The food that was brought to the tables around us looked interesting and fresh, so I would easily find something else to eat from the menu."
"Stopped by for a meal - wow - proper Yorkshire portions here! I had the giant Yorkshire pudding with sausage + mash, and it was one of those rare times when I couldn't eat it all. Delicious!"
"The drinks and food were reasonably priced and tasty."
"Thankfully when the food came back it was excellent and hot. Clearly wasn't microwaved."
Cons:
"I ordered gammon and chips from the menu. The gammon was swimming in a puddle of oil, I had to mop this up with a napkin before I could eat."
"Large roast dinner very poor. Beef fatty, pale and tasteless."
"Evening meal was just ok, hanging kebab only had 5 pieces of chicken on it, mousaka was over cooked."
"The chips were uncooked to the point of being inedible, the fish was soggy on the outside but very dry on the inside and in the thicker parts totally inedible."
"Unfortunately both our food orders came completely cold and sent back."
"The Sunday dinner was reheated and bland and the salmon pasta dish was oily and sickly."
"The food was garbage. The fries were warm and very soggy, not fresh fries for sure."
Service & Staff
Pros:
"The person who greeted us was extremely busy with guests but dealt with us promptly and was really friendly."
"Waiter and waitress were very friendly and patient."
"The staff were friendly and professional."
"Staff were all friendly and helpful."
"Staff are very friendly and helpful with suggestions on what to choose."
"Staff are very friendly and helpful I just think extra attention to detail will give this hotel the 5* it could be."
"The staff were so friendly and helpful."
Cons:
"Some tables cleared but not cleaned (including ours) and some part cleared and left like that for a while."
"Tables not wiped down in between customers."
"We were not asked if the food was okay so we had to stand up to go and ask for more gravy."
"Staff refused to shut an external door (it's 9*C outside) despite being asked by 4/5 tables as 'we just can’t'."
"Told to order food at the bar which I did and then question the total as it didn't match the menu price?"
"Bar/Pub experience - terrible! Rude bar staff, a man and girl were both on duty."
"Won't go back. Late morning visit. Bar staff member with NO people skills!!"
